Good value on the expensive south coast
Convenient location near Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap
Large, landscaped pool area with plenty of loungers
Quiet and casual atmosphere
Spacious rooms
All rooms have balconies
Free (but spotty) Wi-Fi
Not right on the beach -- beach is across the street and down a sandy
path
Rooms are tired and dated
Like most hotels in this category, there aren't many amenities
One of the less-expensive hotels on the south coast of the island, the budget-friendly Barbados Beach Club offers guests peace and relaxation. Located on a quiet side road off of the main strip, the hotel is within walking distance of the St. Lawrence Gap, a hub of restaurants and nightlife. The hotel has a large and scenic pool complex, an on-site restaurant, and free Wi-Fi, and is across the street and down a sandy path from a small, secluded beach. The rooms, however, also leave much to be desired – they have the furnishings, decor, and feel of a tired chain hotel. Nearby Infinity on the Beach is a bit pricier but still a good value, and has more updated rooms.
Scene
Casual and relaxed budget hotel
The buildings at the Barbados Beach Club are a bright coral color and have white balconies. Most rooms look onto the property, although a few have views of the street and ocean. There is ample parking and the grounds are spacious and well manicured. The lobby is large and cavernous with three interconnecting rooms. The space has brown wicker cushioned furniture, green accent pillows and art, and a small library of books. There is a single computer available for guests to use. The restaurant and bar are located off of the lobby and look out on the pool area. The pool is in the center of the property (most room balconies look down onto the pool) and is large and nicely landscaped. There are plenty of loungers, tables, and chairs surrounding the two areas of the pool. There is a walkway that runs directly through the pool area, which leads guests to other buildings on the property. The hallways and stairs are white tile and open-air. There are arched doorways leading into the buildings, which are a nice touch. The buildings are four stories and do not have elevators, which can be a challenge for guests with mobility issues. The guests comprise a mix of budget travelers, including young couples, groups of friends, and families with children.
Location
Close to Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap
Barbados Beach Club has a great location, situated on Maxwell Coast Road, a side street between Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap. Both are hubs of nightlife, restaurants, and activity. The hotel is located across the street from the beach.- 15-minute walk to the Gap
Rooms
Spacious but basic and dated
The rooms at Barbados Beach Club are large but tired, and the decor is that of an old chain hotel. New bedspreads are vibrant but thin, and beds have minimal pillows. Light wood furniture, white tile floors, and floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors leading to the balconies help the rooms feel spacious, at least. Flat-screen TVs and gauzy drapes have been added since our visit. The bathrooms are large but dated and unremarkable. The sinks are plastic, there is a cheap white plastic shower curtain over the tub, and only glasses and hand soap are provided, no other toiletries. The arched balconies are large, and most overlook the pool area. The balconies are furnished with two plastic lawn chairs and a table. The rooms have good, strong air-conditioning, a safe (for a fee), mini-fridge, and a hairdryer. Other items, such as tea- and coffee- making facilities and a microwave are available upon request. The hotel offers rooms with king, queen, or double beds, as well as a two-bedroom room for families.
Features
The pool is the main feature here
The pool area is the highlight of the hotel. Located in the center of the property, the pool is split into two circular areas with a wooden bridge in between. The area is nicely landscaped with palm trees and other tropical plants. There are plenty of loungers with umbrellas, as well as tables and chairs surrounding the pool. The area is spacious with plenty of room.Poolside Restaurant and Bar, which was closed for renovations during our visit, is located off the pool and can also be reached through the lobby. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner cuisine is Caribbean fusion. Continental breakfast consists of toast, a pastry, tea/coffee, and a glass of fruit juice. Some guests complain that the quality of the food is low, and that breakfast leaves much to be desired. Reef View Restaurant serves sea food dishes in a more formal setting. This option is only open for dinner Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The beach is located across the street from the hotel down a short sandy path. The beach is small and secluded, and surrounded by palm trees. There are no chairs, umbrellas, or facilities on the beach and the water can be rough. For a similar price, the Dover Beach Hotel is located directly on the beach. There is a small, industrial-looking room on the first floor that only contains a fan, weight bench, and bike that can barely be called a fitness area.
