Scene

Quaint Victorian inn with standard motel housed in adjoining building

Built in 1884 as a summer cottage for Boston banker Alex Moseley, the main building of the Moseley Cottage Inn and Town Motel retains its Victorian charm and quaint decor to this day. However, it has since been injected with a dose of modern details, such as flat-screen TVs in all rooms and free Wi-Fi throughout. The lovely white clapboard inn has a front porch filled with white wicker furniture and fits right in with all the other quaint homes and bed-and-breakfasts in this quiet, tree-filled area right by downtown Bar Harbor’s Main Street.

The property is composed of two buildings – the main building which houses the inn, and a separate building where the motel rooms are located. The elegant old-fashioned interiors in the main building have lots of floral wallpaper, Persian-style rugs covering hardwood floors, and an abundance of antique pieces. The effect is elegant and cozy, with fireplaces in nearly every room and plenty of natural light from large windows. The tiny lobby is bedecked in Victorian decor and filled with tourist brochures. There is a Keurig coffeemaker guests are free to use, and afternoon treats are served daily. There are also several common spaces located on the ground floor of the inn, including a small and sunny dining room where breakfast is served, as well as a pleasant parlor full of antique pieces, a piano, and a fireplace.

The property attracts a variety of travelers due to its variety of room types. The motel rooms attract budget travelers who value the prime location, while the inn rooms attract couples and families who appreciate the larger rooms and sweet details, such as teddy bears on beds.

Location

Downtown Bar Harbor location right by Main Street

The Moseley Cottage Inn and Town Hotel is conveniently located on a quiet, tree-lined side street off of Main Street in downtown Bar Harbor. The area is filled with restaurants, cafes, and shops, and the waterfront is a short walk away. The nearest entrance to Acadia National Park is a five-minute drive from the hotel and guests can use the free Island Explorer shuttle bus, which stops nearby and goes to Acadia in the high season.

Rooms

Elegant inn rooms, most with fireplaces and porches, and clean, standard motel rooms

There are two room options at the Moseley Cottage Inn and Motel: inn rooms located in the main building, and cheaper, simpler motel rooms in an adjoining building. The nine inn rooms are cozy and elegant, with the same type of Victorian decor that pervades the common rooms on the ground floor – floral patterns and antique furniture abound. The rooms are spacious and most have fireplaces as well as private porches (one even has a porch swing), as well as modern amenities including flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Select rooms have ocean views, as the waterfront is close by. There are also larger rooms available that can accommodate families, such as a suite with a king-size bed and two twins that comes with little teddy bears on the beds. There is also one tiny room available that's suitable for single travelers. Bathrooms vary in size, but have all have characteristically quaint decor and come equipped with either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos.

The motel rooms are smaller and simpler, with generic decor. Instead of oriental rugs and hardwood floors, these rooms have carpeting and simple, modern furniture. All come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi, as well as standard bathrooms.

Features

Parlor with piano and fireplace, free breakfast for inn guests, and free Wi-Fi throughout

The Moseley Cottage Inn and Town Motel has several lovely common rooms on the ground floor of its main building, including a lovely parlor with a piano, board games, TV, and a computer and printer for guest use. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Past guests rave about the delicious homemade breakfast, which is free for guests staying in the inn rooms but costs extra for motel  guests.
