Located on scenic Beech Mountain, the mid-range Archer’s Mountain Inn is conveniently located for those looking to take advantage of the area's renowned skiing, cycling, and hiking. The hotel has 30 rooms with fireplaces and porches, many with gorgeous mountain views; the decor is in keeping with the lodge feel, but is a bit dated. There’s a restaurant and bar on-site, with outdoor dining in warm weather, and the free breakfast includes menu items from the restaurant. It's also worth considering Blue Ridge Village, which has a large indoor pool, tennis courts, and homey rooms with full kitchens and gas fireplaces.
Scene
Mountainside, lodge-style inn with panoramic views and rustic restaurant
Once the personal home of legendary college football coach Paul Dietzel, Archer’s Mountain Inn is located on the side of a tree-covered mountain. Cedar shakes, red railing, and gray siding give the building a lodge-style country feel. Inside, Jackalope’s View restaurant and bar has a rustic aesthetic, with knotty wood flooring and walls, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking sweeping views of the mountains. In warmer months, the restaurant also has a similarly scenic wooden terrace with wrought-iron tables and chairs. The relaxed bar area has a U-shaped wood counter with black stools and serves drafts of craft beers and over 300 wine bottles; a pool table makes it a more social spot, too.
Location
On Beech Mountain, surrounded by world-class cycling and hiking, less than 10 minutes from a ski resort
Archer’s Mountain Inn is located on the side of Beech Mountain, less than two hours from Asheville. It’s a 10-minute drive down the mountain from the heart of the surrounding town, where there are plenty of restaurants, as well as Beech Mountain Resort which offers skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating. There are plenty of recreation areas in the surrounding area, biking and hiking trails; the area is renowned for its world-class cycling, and professional cyclists train here.
Rooms
Rustic, lodge-style rooms with fireplaces, porches, and mountain views
Rooms at the Archer's Mountain Inn are rustic in style, with wood-paneled walls and lodge-inspired furnishings like mounted antlers, leather couches, and patterned carpeting. The overall aesthetic isn't especially modern, but fits with the surroundings and is cozy enough. Rooms are divided between two main lodges: those in the Hawks View Lodge are larger, while those in Laurel Lodge are smaller. Amenities vary by room, but generally include coffee/tea facilities, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Some rooms have private outdoor hot tubs. All rooms have TVs, fireplaces, private or shared porches with mountain views, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have white tile floors and wood-paneled walls and are stocked with Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. Most bathrooms have shower/tub combinations. Rooms could use some updating -- some rooms still have tube-style TVs and some of the bedding looks a little faded.
