Scene
Upscale hotel with a focus on health and wellness
The hotel encompasses two wings split between two separate buildings; the Memory Wing in the original post-modern building and the Welcome Wing in a later addition, which now houses the lobby. Sophisticated design runs throughout, combining a modern gray palette with classic elements and a touch of Art Deco flair to the furnishings. Through the sliding glass doors, a circle of green marble dominates the middle of the floor in front of a wall made of tiny glass blocks under a mirrored ceiling. A few antique-looking armchairs occupy space below a decorative shelf, and across the room a reception desk fronted by smoked gold-hued mirrors is decorated with glass terrariums. A circular lounge opens to the side, filled with natural light, leather chairs, and an old phonograph. Guests tend to be a mix of European couples and families, with regular tour groups from across Asia added to the mix.
Location
In Bangkok's Sukhumvit district, close to metro and skytrain stations
The Well Hotel Bangkok is just off Sukhumvit Road, in the heart of Bangkok's commercial shopping and dining district. Food vendors, boutiques, and restaurants line the streets in every direction. The Terminal 21 and Emquartier shopping malls are within walking distance in opposite directions down Sukhumvit Road. Public transportation is within easy reach, with the Asok Skytrain stop an eight-minute walk away, and Sukhumvit Metro station is 10 minutes away on foot. Tourist attractions aren't easily accessible and getting across the city to spots like the Grand Palace and other temples is tricky from here, though can be done by car in roughly 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. Expect 30 minutes to reach the buzzing Silom area and notorious Patpong Night Market by metro. Suvarnabhumi Airport can be reliably reached in just over 50 minutes on public transportation, and due to the city's incredible traffic, plan for the same amount of time by car.
