The
111-room, upscale Viva Garden Serviced Residence is aimed largely at long-stay
business travelers, but this resort-style property offers much for couples and
families, too. Located in eastern Bangkok right on Sukhumvit Road, the hotel is a two-minute walk from Bang Chak Skytrain station, making it easy to get around the city and to the airport; downtown is farther away, but still directly accessible by train. The hotel is stylishly decorated in modern neutrals throughout. Rooms are both
spacious and well equipped with kitchenettes. And facilities -- including a pool,
sauna, gym, garden, and children’s playroom -- are spotless and well maintained. For a luxury hotel in the heart of downtown, travelers could try the InterContinental Bangkok.
Scene
Long-stay property with contemporary decor, art, and lots of light
Geared
distinctly toward business travelers with links to factories in the east of
Bangkok, the Viva Garden has many long-stay guests, but the hotel’s stylish
and modern decor is suited to leisure travelers, too. The building itself is bright white and contemporary, with gentle curves and silver balcony railings. A resort-like feel to the
property stems from the relaxing pool area and adjoining garden, while an
additional garden terrace on the 11th floor has impressive views of suburban
Bangkok. Contemporary brown and cream sofas fill the lobby, which has floor-to-ceiling windows letting in plenty of natural light; there are also
flat-screen TVs and Internet terminals available for use. Modern art canvases
pleasantly spruce up neutrally decorated walls in the corridors. The BaiBua restaurant’s
brown-paneled walls, wood-beamed ceiling, and brown
leather-style seating nearly make the space feel too dark, but windows and wall-mounted planters filled with green ivy lighten it up; the overall effect is
clean and modern, if a touch characterless.
Location
Convenient location for Skytrain and airport, plus local restaurants nearby
Right on
the busy Sukhumvit Road, one of Bangkok’s major carriageways and the longest
road in Thailand, the Viva Garden Serviced Residence is just a two-minute walk from Bang Chak Skytrain station. Though the hotel is farther than most from downtown
shopping malls and other attractions, these can be reached by direct and
inexpensive train. The high-end Emporium and Emquartier malls are five stations
away (about 25 minutes), and one station farther provides a connection to the subway line at Asok.
The BITEC convention center is three stations from the hotel in the opposite
direction, or a 10-minute taxi ride. Suvarnabhumi international airport is only
25 minutes from the hotel by taxi, and access to the nearby expressway
simplifies road travel elsewhere around the city. In the hotel’s immediate
vicinity are a number of local restaurants and spas.
Rooms
Spacious, well-equipped rooms with kitchenettes; some with furnished balconies
The Viva
Garden’s studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments are all clean, large, and
well designed to make the most of the available space. The hotel’s overall
chic, modern decor continues here, with large beds (though some guests complain they're on the hard side), soft lighting, and neutral curtains, plus
laminate flooring, and touches of art on the walls. Larger apartments have separate living rooms with dining tables, but all rooms include contemporary
sofas and coffee tables, plus flat-screen TVs (up to three in the two-bedroom apartments) with cable and DVD players, desks with soft lamps, ironing boards, and other essentials. Every room comes with a kitchenette equipped with a refrigerator,
two-burner stovetop, microwave, and crockery; larger apartments also have washing
machines. Small touches like wicker laundry hampers add a homey touch,
while the large wraparound balconies in some apartments offer pleasant city views and have dark brown wicker seats and tables. Bright,
immaculate, and cleverly laid-out bathrooms include both large walk-in showers
and full bathtubs, even in studio rooms, with white tiling, and black
accent tiles; a basic set of toiletries is
provided. There are some reports of noise from the neighboring Skytrain station
and school; though the hotel offers earplugs, opting for a higher floor is a
good idea (for the views, too).
Features
Immaculate and well-maintained facilities, plus positive reviews about concierge
The hotel’s
numerous facilities are spotlessly clean and well cared for; the 25-meter pool
and hot tub get plenty of sun and are lined by chic black sun loungers, with
free towels and service from the hotel’s restaurant. A relaxing garden lies
behind the pool area, while the sauna and steam room are also nearby. The hotel also has a bright and modern gym with high-end cardio machines and weight-lifting equipment plus flat-screen TVs. A well-equipped
playroom includes playhouses, a ball pond, and bean bags for children up to 12
years old. A further garden terrace on the 11th floor offers impressive views
over suburban Bangkok, while the hotel operates a 24-hour business center and can
provide meeting rooms to host between 20 and 100 people. The Thai and
international buffet breakfast gets mixed though generally positive reviews,
while guests report favorably on the BaiBua's a la carte menu served the rest
of the day; room service is also available. The hotel offers free and fast
Wi-Fi throughout the building, and staff receive consistently high praise,
particularly the concierge.
