Bottom Line

AETAS Lumpini is a luxury
hotel offering 203 spacious, contemporary rooms with stylish decor a short walk
from the metro and Lumpini Park. The hotel is at the edge of Bangkok’s trendy
Sathorn district, though the busy Rama IV Road immediately outside the hotel’s
front door is charmless. There is a luxury condo vibe here that’s ideal for
couples and business travelers, with facilities like an outdoor saltwater pool
and an exclusive Executive Club, but the fitness center is small and some guests complain about the air-conditioning. Guests looking to be closer to bustling Sukhumvit
Road should try the Continent Bangkok for stylish, but smaller rooms at a
similar price point.

Scene

Contemporary, luxury condo atmosphere for business travelers and families

The AETAS Lumpini
attracts couples and business travelers, as well as solo travelers and a few
families, with a luxury condo vibe that’s enhanced by stylish design elements and
high-end features. An intimate, chic lobby greets guests with polished white
stone floors offset by dark ceiling panels engraved in abstract diamond
patterns, a design motif that runs throughout the hotel. Earth tones dominate
the stylish space and there are several contemporary chairs arranged throughout
the lobby. There are a few attractive dining and drinking options on-site,
including One-80, a wine bar that’s simultaneously sophisticated and playful,
with bright bubbly patterns and retro-futuristic seating, and GMT Lounge, which
is a comfortable place to relax with a cocktail amid cushioned couches and
chairs.

Location

Near trendy Sathorn, a five-minute walk to Lumpini Park and metro

Situated right on the
wickedly busy Rama IV Road, the hotel is a five-minute walk from sprawling
Lumpini Park and the Lumpini Metro station. At the edge of the trendy Sathorn
district, bustling Silom Road -- lined with high-end shopping malls, cheap eats,
and the notorious Patpong night market -- is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Chatuchak
Weekend Market is 30 minutes away by using the metro, while Hua Lamphong Train
Station is just 10 minutes away, next to Bangkok’s vibrant Chinatown. The
historic sights around the Grand Palace can be accessed in about 45 minutes
via metro, skytrain, and Chao Phraya River ferries (though this will
include some walking), a trip that can take around 35 minutes by taxi.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is up to 40 minutes away by car depending on traffic,
while Don Mueang Airport is about 35 minutes away.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with modern design and luxurious bathrooms

Guest rooms are stylish and
modern, with off-white walls and warm wood paneling playing against striped
carpets, as well as contemporary furniture
which includes round leather chairs and retro chrome coffee tables. Abstract wall art adds a pop of color to the neutral hues, while framed black-and-white sketches bring a local flair to the spaces. Some design aspects feel a little outdated, however, like glass desks and faux flower-petal motifs on some of the carpets. All rooms have
tea- and coffee-making facilities, minibars, flat-screen
TVs, safes, and telephones. Beds are comfortable, with duvets, silk
bed runners, and throw pillows, and many rooms have excellent views of Lumpini
Park. There’s an array of room sizes here and suites have separate work areas
or living rooms, while Premier and Executive Suites offer more seating, like lime-green
couches that add a dash of color to the rooms. Bathrooms are spacious and
clean, with separate bathtubs and walk-in showers, a complete line of toiletries, bathrobes, and large marble vanities with contemporary sinks and
fixtures. Bathrooms in suites are larger and more luxurious, and
some feature jetted bathtubs, while the hotel’s Club Room floor guests are
entitled to a host of on-site amenities. Also, though air-conditioning is
individually controlled, guests have reported it to be occasionally inadequate.

Features

Outdoor saltwater pool and small fitness center, restaurant and wine bar, and Executive Club perks for Club Room bookings

The hotel has an outdoor saltwater
swimming pool with a built-in hot tub and wading area that’s suitable for children.
Unfortunately, sunbathing options around the area are extremely limited, as the
building hangs over the majority of the small, wooden terrace. There is also a
fitness center adjacent to the pool with a sauna, though it is small and only
offers a few cardio machines and an underwhelming selection of free weights.  The hotel has one on-site
restaurant, the Hourglass, which serves a great breakfast buffet that’s only
included with certain bookings as well as lunch buffets and dinner with
international options. GMT Lounge offers a happy hour, and is a comfortable,
neutral-toned bar with plenty of couches and chairs throughout. One-80
offers great views of Bangkok and Lumpini Park in a playful, yet stylish, wine
bar setting. Room service is available throughout the day.The 28th floor
Executive Lounge is an exclusive retreat with stunning Bangkok views outfitted
with Art Deco, modern, and whimsical design elements for Club Room guests. Club
Room bookings receive free afternoon tea, evening cocktails and snacks, free breakfast,
limited laundry service, a one-day metro pass, late check-out, and a personal
butler. These guests are also entitled to limited usage of the hotel’s board
room, which is part of AETAS Lumpini’s extensive business accommodations. There
are a total of nine meeting and event spaces on-site that can accommodate up to
200 guests with audiovisual and catering services available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there is a 24-hour front desk as well as
a dedicated concierge who can arrange private cars and limousines, including
airport transfers.
