Suvarnabhumi Suite Airport Hotel is a three-and-a-half-pearl transit hotel located less than a 10-minute drive from the Suvarnabhumi Airport. The 90 rooms are functional and pleasant enough, and higher categories have balconies -- just be aware that the Superior Cube units lack windows. Amenities are excellent for a transit hotel and include a small outdoor pool, a gym with a sauna, a spa, and a rooftop restaurant with room service and a free buffet breakfast. While this is a great option for those needing easy access to the airport, it's too far from the city center to make sense for those planning to be in Bangkok for a while. A better situated option in the same price range is Le Fenix Sukhumvit, situated right in the city center.
Scene
Airport hotel with gigantic robot action figures at the entryway and lovely rooftop terrace
This hotel is housed in a white-and-brown seven-story building on a small back street just off the main road. At the front of the hotel is a series of larger-than-life sculptures of superheroes made from what appears to be scrap metal plus a few colorful robot-like creatures. A couple of benches are placed on artificial grass for guests to hang out. Inside, the lobby is sunny and bright, with large windows that look out to the street (and the superheroes) plus a display case with smaller figurines, a rack of postcards, and a luggage scale. There's plenty of seating in the form of plush pincushion-style sofas in muted shades of rust. Elevators lead up to rooms and to the rooftop terrace, a large and open space with a big fountain, tables and chairs used by the adjacent restaurant, and sunset views. The hotel attracts travelers from all over the world, including couples and families, most of whom need easy access to the nearby airport.
Location
Near the Suvarnabhumi Airport, but inconvenient to city center and area attractions
This hotel is located in the eastern suburbs of Bangkok, just off of Lat Krabang Road, a long strip near the airport where the bulk of airport hotels are located. The area doesn't have much going for it other than food stalls selling noodle dishes, plus a few mini-marts within walking distance. The Bangkok International Airport is a bit too far to walk to from the hotel, but it can easily be reached by car in under 10 minutes. Getting into the city center is a bit more complicated, though travelers can take a taxi to the Lat Krabang train station, a 10-minute drive away, and then continue to the city center from there on the SRTET City Line -- the whole trip takes around an hour. Guests will really need a taxi to realistically access tourist attractions. Jim Thompson House takes around 45 minutes to get to without traffic, while the Grand Palace takes closer to an hour to reach.
Rooms
Spacious rooms and suites with flat-screen TVs and cable; most with balconies
This hotel offers five types of rooms, all with similar contemporary Thai decor. Expect dark-wood floors and coordinating furniture paired with red-and-gold fleur-de-lis-inspired accent panels behind the beds and on the walls. The smallest rooms are Studio Rooms, which measure 20 square meters (215 square feet), followed by 28-square-meter (301-square-foot) Superior Rooms. Deluxe Rooms have balconies and are slightly larger, at 30 square meters (323 square feet), but guests who need a lot of extra space are better off booking Suite Rooms, which measure 45 square meters (484 square feet) and have separate living rooms with second TVs and DVD players. Note that Superior Cube Rooms lack windows. All units feature similar amenities, including minibars, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs with satellite cable. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers with autumnal-toned mini-tiles and vessel sinks. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided.
Features
Fitness center with sauna, small pool, spa with facials and massages, and restaurant with room service
This hotel offers great facilities, particularly for an airport property. There's an outdoor pool at the entrance that's good for a cooling dip, but maybe a tad small for swimming laps. Just next to it is a fitness center with a few cardio machines and free weights, plus a smallish sauna. There's a small lobby bar just inside with snacks and drinks. The rest of the hotel's facilities are on the top floor, and include a lovely restaurant, Veeranda, with indoor and outdoor seating and great sunset views, plus live music every night. Veeranda serves Thai and international food; room service is available until late. Breakfast is also served here, buffet style, and the meal is included in room rates. Just next to the restaurant is a smallish meeting room plus a spa, Paradee, with massages and facials available. Other facilities include laundry services and tour bookings, and the hotel offers a shuttle to the airport (included in some rates) plus a limited amount of on-site parking. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there are a few guest computers in the lobby for those without their own devices.
