This upscale hotel sits on lively Soi 11, but its location at the end of the street means it's nonetheless quiet and tranquil. All rooms are spacious suites, with kitchenettes, modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and free WiFi, and attractive, Asian-influenced decor. There's also a small outdoor pool and a gym on-site, and neither ever feel crowded. In fact, the lack of a scene is what deters some guests from coming back. But overall, the Solitaire Bangkok is a convenient, modern pick -- particularly for those on longer stays who may appreciate the in-room kitchens.
Scene
Subdued and casual, the hotel doesn't have many "hot spots" -- so most guests venture to local bars and restaurants
There isn't too much going on in this hotel, as it is located in a quiet area at the end of Soi 11 -- further up the road is where the party can be found. Therefore, most guests head out to do their drinking and dining elsewhere, especially because the hotel has just a small restaurant and lobby lounge. The lobby lounge is about the only spot you'll catch people hanging out, although guests can relax in the library corner of the lobby where there are magazines, newspapers, and couches. The small and serene swimming pool up on top of the building does get a few folks too, but mostly the scene here is pretty casual and serene.
Location
Sits in the quiet area of a busy street, within quick access of the skytrain and plenty of restaurants and bars
The Solitaire Bangkok is hidden away at the end of Soi 11. It's a quiet spot yet it's only minutes from "party central" along Soi 11 and then Sukhumvit Road. The hotel is within walking distance of tons of restaurants, bars, and nightlife. The red light district of Nana is only 10 to 15 minutes away, yet this end of the block feels well removed from it, so those with no interest in that part of Bangkok won't be hassled or put off. The hotel has a free tuk tuk shuttle up to Sukhumvit and the skytrain for access to all of Bangkok, and there are plenty of convenience stores, street food, and all else one could need almost at the doorstep. Still, some say the area can feel seedy at night.
Rooms
Fully furnished suites with kitchenettes, spacious living rooms, and bathrooms -- plus free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs with DVD players
All of the rooms at the Solitaire Bangkok are spacious suites with hardwood floors and attractive decor with slight Asian influences. Even the entry-level Premier Suites have kitchenettes with cooking facilities, microwave ovens, large refrigerators, and pots, pans, and utensils, along with dining areas, sofas, tables, large televisions, and beautiful bathrooms with bathtubs. Other amenities include ironing boards, safes, and DVD players. All rooms are spacious, and the only drawback with them is the lack of terraces of balconies to sit on.
Features
Tranquil swimming pool, small fitness center, and relaxing lobby lounge
The hotel has a decent upper-floor pool that is tranquil and open-air. There is also a rather small fitness center, but it has both weight-training and cardio machines, as well as free weights. For food and drink, there is only the small Dining Room restaurant, mostly popular for breakfasts, and the relaxing Lobby Lounge for cocktails, although it seems that most guests here head out to the more lively area of Soi 11, with all its bars, just around the corner.
