The Sawasdee Hotel @ Sukhumvit Soi 8 is a compact hotel mainly used as a budget option for those wishing to be in the Sukhumvit area. The hotel is located well down Soi 8, a quiet side road coming off of the main artery Sukhumvit, which has lots of restaurants and shops. There is only one type of room at the Sawasdee, but some have balconies while others do not. The small rooms all come with free Wi-Fi, free coffee and tea, safes, flat-screen TVs, and air conditioning. The hotel has no features aside from a few computer terminals in the lobby and a very tiny restaurant where the free breakfast is served. The hotel is a bit far from the main road, but has a free 24-hour tuk tuk shuttle. While rates are reasonable, one can probably find nearby competitors offering slightly bigger and better offerings for about the same price.
Scene
Tiny hotel with no scene, but a solid option for those seeking modern (small) rooms on a budget
There really is nothing happening at the Sawasdee Hotel @ Sukhumvit Soi 8, as it is a simple hotel with small, but modern rooms meant for budge travelers. As there is no swimming pool, fitness center, or bar, there really isn't anywhere to hang out here, other than the tiny restaurant, which is really only used for serving the inclusive breakfast buffet, or the small lobby, which has a couple of computer terminals and a couch. Guests here are just looking for a budget sleep in the Sukhumvit area. The hotel attracts mainly couples and solo travelers; the only way a family could stay here would be to get several connecting rooms.
Location
Quiet location half a mile down a side street from bustling Sukhumvit Road; free tuk-tuk shuttle available 24/7
The Sawasdee Hotel has a quiet location about a half mile down Soi 8, one of the side streets running off of main Sukhumvit Road. On Sukhumvit one can find tons of restaurants, bars, shopping, and nightlife, and even the head of Soi 8 has plenty going on, but it gets very quiet the further down one goes. This does mean a quiet night's sleep, and the hotel has a free tuk-tuk shuttle to take guests to Sukhumvit and back, on call 24/7.
Rooms
Small rooms with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs; rooms with balconies are just a buck extra
There is only one room category at the Sawasdee, Superior, although it does come in several forms. One can either opt for double or twin beds, and then there is the possibility of having a balcony or not. As the rooms are very tiny, the extra breathing space afforded by those with balconies make them the much better choice, and considering it only costs $1.30 extra for the balcony, there really is no reason to choose those without. The rooms otherwise are all the same, and come with large flat-screen TVs, free tea and coffee, mini-fridges, safes, bathrobes and slippers, and free Wi-Fi. Considering the room size, the bathrooms aren't too small, although they are nothing more than a toilet and shower (with the sink being outside in the room entryway).
Features
A small restaurant serves the free breakfast buffet.
There are almost no extras at the Sawasdee Hotel @ Sukhumvit Soi 8. There is no gym, spa, pool, or bar (although guests can buy a beer in the restaurant). The tiny restaurant next to the lobby is the only public spot (other than the lobby) here, and it serves free breakfast buffets every morning. Other than this, a few computer terminals with a couch in the lobby are the only other features you will find here.
