Bottom Line

The mid-range Phachara Suites are a good choice for those wanting to stay in the heart of Sukhumvit Road, close to the area's nightlife and dining. The rooms are spacious and all have washing machines and kitchens. There's a swimming pool and a small fitness center and spa, as well as a small restaurant. The area around the hotel can get seedy at night due to its close proximity to Nana Plaza, a red-light district, but it is a mere five-minute walk to the BTS Skytrain station, from where it's easy to reach other parts of town.

Scene

Near the Nana Plaza red-light district, but tame and quiet inside the hotel

The Phachara Suites attracts tourists and long-term travelers who want kitchens; many are in town on business. The small lobby is busy during checkout but quiet during the rest of the day and the small Sanook Cafe is only bustling at breakfast. The swimming pool is relatively small and has an overhang above it, so you won't find sun bathers lounging here.

Location

Central location, close to Skytrain, but right next to the red light district

The Phachara Suites are located just off Sukhumvit Road, known for its nightlife. While the entire area has plenty of drinking options, some guests might not like the hotel's location around the corner from the Nana Plaza red-light district, and the area can feel seedy at night. However, the BTS Skytrain station is just a five-minute walk away; from there, it's cheap and easy to get to other parts of town. The hotel itself sits on a narrow side street off the main drag that can get crowed with traffic during rush hour. There are convenience stores, street-food vendors, and restaurants nearby. The airport is a 40-minute taxi ride away but can take twice as long during busy times of day.

Rooms

Apartment-style rooms with washing machines and kitchens

The Phachara Suites offer apartment-style rooms with up to two bedrooms, and each unit has a washing machine and free Wi-Fi. Decor is simple and businesslike, with wood floors and cream and taupe interiors.  All of the apartments have full kitchens with stoves, microwaves, plates and cutlery, and enormous refrigerators. Bathrooms include marble floors and walls, large vanity mirrors, and shower-tub combos; some have windows. The only drawback is that with the exception of the Two-Bedroom Premier Suites, most rooms do not have balconies or any sort of outdoor seating.

Features

Small pool, gym, and spa, plus a tiny restaurant downstairs

The Phachara has a sunny fitness center with a rack of weights and a few strength-training and cardio machines. There's a spa and massage area that -- like the gym -- gets lots of natural light. There's a covered outdoor pool which has several large columns built into the middle of it making it a challenge for multiple people to swim laps at the same time. It's covered by a large overhang, which shades it from the sun. There's a small restaurant/cafe and a tiny terrace outside for drinking beer or coffee, so most guests head elsewhere for meals and partying. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
