Bottom Line

Smack in the middle of the busy Siam Square shopping area, this upscale chain hotel offers 428 rooms, the simplest of which are somewhat spare in decor. Wood laminate furniture and industrial wall-to-wall carpeting make for comfortable, if unremarkable rooms at a rate that is slightly elevated for the area; pricier rooms here have higher quality built-ins and renovated bathrooms. In-house offerings include a spa with a sauna and massage options, a rooftop pool, and a well-equipped fitness center. There are several dining options on the premises, though the teeming street life nearby also offers lots of possibilities. Guests seeking more stylish rooms for a similar price could try The Siam@Siam Design Hotel and Spa, about 15 minutes away.

Scene

Slightly dated corporate decor in large concrete building

Wedged between large glass high-rises, the hotel has a high ceilinged lobby area that veers towards the corporate, with carpet that hearkens to an older decade of decoration and laminate wood paneled walls. While not the most up to date aesthetically, the building has a bustling local feel to it, as office workers in the area come in to have lunch and use the board rooms. Hallways are somewhat spare, the white walls decorated here and there with brightly colored abstract paintings, and the floors lined with patterned teal carpeting. Restaurants and bars here are likewise unspectacular, decor-wise, with industrial carpeting, wood laminate furnishings, and some pops of muted color. However, The Square international restaurant has a somewhat sleeker, more modern aesthetic, with leather seating, modern red chandeliers, and a green backlit bar. The poolside bar is simply furnished with plastic faux-wood furniture, and tends to be quite crowded throughout the day. Guests include a mix of families, couples, and business travelers seeking convenience and comfort.

Location

In the heart of Siam Square, surrounded by clothing outlets and glass high-rises

Not only does the hotel provide direct access to the teeming chain shops of Siam Square, it also offers good proximity to a number of tourist hot spots via the Siam BTS station about 150 meters from the hotel. Silom Square is 12 minutes on the BTS, and the airport is one hour away with a single transfer.

Rooms

Lower-priced rooms are somewhat plain, but all have bathrobes, slippers, and minibars.

Standard Rooms offer industrial wall-to-wall carpeting, yellow laminate wood bed frames, and shower/tub combos in small bathrooms. Bedding is white with some jewel-colored accent throws. Premium Rooms have more stylish, modern decor, with velour-covered couches, LED reading lights, bathrobes and slippers, and glass walls separating the bathrooms from the sleeping areas. Bathrooms in Superior and Executive rooms have walk-in showers with full glass doors, handsome taupe-colored tiling, and rainfall showerheads. Each room has a flat-screen TV, a stocked minibar with snacks, a hairdryer, a safe, an electric kettle, and a bathrobe and slippers. Suites have separate living areas.

Features

Pool, several dining options, meeting rooms, spa with sauna

The extensive fitness center has large windows, wood floors, a couple each of different types of exercise machines, and a good number of weight machines in addition to free weights. There is a spa with massage rooms as well as a dry sauna, and an outdoor rooftop pool flanked by a few deck chairs and a pool bar with tables. The Chinese and international restaurants do buffets -- dim sum in one and international in the other -- and both are quite popular with locals. An extensive amount of meeting space also attracts area businesses to hold meetings here. Wi-Fi is free, as is covered parking.
