The 71-room myhotel Pratunam is a small budget hotel near Pratunam Market and the Airport Rail Link terminus. Bargain prices keep this property full, and while the hotel is modern, it's a no-frills affair. Basic rooms have wood floors, small flat-screen TVs, minibars, small safes, and free Wi-Fi. The location isn't convenient for central Bangkok's major eating and drinking areas, but the Phaya Thai Skytrain station is only a seven-minute walk from the hotel. There's a small cafe and restaurant that serves free breakfast as well as lunch and dinner, but no other facilities. For a bit more cash, the Citichic by iCheck Inn has sharper, more spacious rooms and a prime Lower Sukhumvit location.
Scene
Simple budget hotel draws bargain shoppers headed to Pratunam Market
There isn't much of a scene at myhotel Pratunam -- after all, it's a no-frills budget hotel with few facilities. That being said, things are modern enough and well kept. The lobby is small, but bright, with white floors and a few beige cushioned seats for guests. There is also a brass sculpture of a bicycle rider by the door, and a few bicycle magazines on the table. Other touches include a couple of carved wooden deer figurines, plus a table with a few computers for guests to use. Aside from the small cafe, the hotel is simply a place to rest at night for those looking to explore Bangkok or Bargain hunt in the local markets. This property is appealing for visitors with an eye on shopping in Pratunam, along with budget travelers of all types seeking value.
Location
Near Pratunam Market area and Airport Rail Link, but far from most sights
The myhotel Pratunam is rather hidden in the shadow of the Baiyoke Tower, Bangkok's tallest building, and reached through a maze of back streets and alleys. The hotel sits at the end of a cul-de-sac that's about halfway between the Airport Link Rail Station terminus and the Pratunam wholesale clothing market. Due to the fact that there is a garment factory across the road that's constantly loading and unloading goods, the area feels busy. At the end of the cul-de-sac is a railroad track, and one can shortcut through here to get to the Airport Link as well as the Phaya Thai Skytrain station in seven minutes or so, but crossing the tracks and the somewhat seedy area isn't the most pleasant experience, especially at night. It will take about 13 minutes to reach CentralWorld shopping mall by skytrain, and 17 minutes to reach the Nana area along lively Sukhumvit Road. Heading in the other direction leads to Petchaburi Road. The Pratunam Market area is about five to 10 minutes from the hotel on foot, depending on the destination, where there are restaurants and plenty of shopping. The hotel also provides an on-call tuk-tuk service to the market and main road area. It can take 30 minutes to an hour to reach Don Mueang Airport by car, while the Airport Rail Link makes the trip to Suvarnabhumi Airport in 45 minutes, and is significantly cheaper than a taxi (and sometimes faster).
Rooms
Basic rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes
The myhotel Pratunam has 71 rooms. All rooms are basic and spartan, though the 10 Cubic Studios are especially low-end as they are slightly smaller than the Standard Rooms and do not have a window. As the hotel is almost always full due to its budget prices, it can be difficult to get one of these rooms for those seeking to save their baht. There is no art on the white walls in guest rooms, and minimal decor includes wood-laminate floors, a large bed, and small desk area with a cushioned stool seat. Rooms are also very small, and frequently have little room on the sides of the bed to navigate. Modern features include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, electric kettles, minibars, and safes, though they aren't big enough for laptops. Rooms also have hairdryers, small closets, and air-conditioners. Bathrooms are small, with just a toilet and shower right next to each other, separated only by a shower curtain. The Standard Rooms do have windows, so there is plenty of light.
Features
Small cafe, travel agency, and free tuk-tuk shuttle to market area
There isn't much in the way of facilities at myhotel Pratunam. The hotel has a small restaurant and cafe in the lobby, where guests are served free breakfasts, and free tea and coffee are also available throughout much of the day. The cafe serves drinks and also has a small menu with a selection of both Thai and western dishes available day and night, though reviews aren't exactly enthusiastic. There are a couple of computers for free use in the lobby, and a small booth by the front desk that hosts a travel and tour agency, which can assist in arranging transport and other tourist needs. The hotel also provides a useful free tuk-tuk shuttle to the Pratunam Market area and Petchaburi Road, which is available on-call throughout the day and early evening, although guests need to make their own way back to the hotel. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
