This upscale, modern chain hotel has a fantastic location near Siam Square and directly across from the MBK shopping center. The 189 ultramodern rooms have air-conditioning and great city views due to the hotel's ninth-floor starting point. Along with its gorgeous rooftop pool and poolside bar, the property has a buffet restaurant, spacious gym, and the added advantage of being across the street from the Skytrain. Families may also want to consider the Centre Point Pratunam Hotel, which has easy access to shopping, along with rooms with kitchenettes, and a kids' playroom.
Scene
Modern, somewhat corporate property inside a high-rise building shared with another hotel
The three bars and restaurant of the hotel, as well as the lobby, all espouse a pleasant, corporate style consisting of gray and purple carpets and contemporary furniture. The building and breakfast area are both shared with Ibis Hotel, and all sections of Mercure begin on the ninth floor, starting with a lobby furnished with papasan-style foam chairs and a lounge bar. The nicest aspect of the common areas is probably the outdoor patio section of the Privilege Lounge, which consists of a handsome all-wood deck filled with wood patio tables and chairs shaded by taupe umbrellas, all with unbridled city views. While the style throughout the hotel does feel somewhat stiff -- even the bright orange hallways seem to lack energy, with their generic abstract paintings -- the main draw of the property is convenience: The location is great, and the on-site features are suited to a wide range of travelers, from families to couples to business guests.
Location
Near Siam Square, in one of the main commercial shopping districts of Bangkok
The hotel is situated in one of the main commercial shopping districts of Bangkok, directly across the street from a major shopping mall known as MBK and six minutes on foot from Siam Square, with more shops and restaurants. There are several hotels in the immediate vicinity, including IBIS in the lower part of the same building, and a plethora of chain shops on the surrounding streets, in addition to fast-food restaurants and a Hard Rock Cafe. One highly touted advantage of the hotel is its relative proximity to the nearest BTS station, which is a one-minute walk away and is the meeting point of two separate transport lines. From here, major sights such as the Grand Palace and National Museum are reached in around 30 to 40 minutes.
Rooms
Great city views and highly contemporary design in slightly corporate-looking rooms
There is a modern, nightclub-like feel to these rooms, which employ recessed LED lighting in cutout built-in panels behind the mattresses, and have dark gray walls and colorfully striped carpets vaguely reminiscent of airport decor. Nonetheless, the beds are comfortable and the views universally fantastic, since all of the rooms start on the ninth floor of the building. Bathrooms have sliding panels that can roll away to expose glass walls looking out onto the bedrooms. Large-scale stone tile, square ceramic sinks, brushed chrome fixtures, and walk-in showers are consistent throughout bathrooms. All rooms have daybeds that can be made up for children to sleep on, and suites have separate living areas with sectional couches topped with colorful pillows. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, LED bedside reading lights, safes, electric kettles for tea and coffee, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and ironing facilities. Executive Rooms and Suites and Deluxe Privilege Club Rooms have capsule coffeemakers and access to a lounge with free snacks and drinks.
Features
Fitness center, rooftop pool, computer area, bar and pool bar, restaurant
An elegant rooftop area offers astounding city views, a narrow pool flanked by a wood deck, and a good number of lounge chairs surrounded by umbrellas on patches of turf. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the fitness center offer similarly spectacular vistas to accompany workouts on the handful of exercise machines, which include a couple each of treadmills, stationary bikes, and elliptical machines in addition to some weights. The hotel has a computer area with a printer for guest use, and three meeting spaces with audiovisual capabilities, including a large ceiling-mounted projection screen. The Eight Restaurant serves themed buffets, while Mercure Lobby Bar on the ninth floor offers light meals and drinks on a terrace. The poolside bar serves drinks, as well. Breakfast is included with some room rates.
