Scene

Small Thai home with spacious common area and simple furnishings

Khaosan Baan Thai is small and homey guesthouse/hostel in a Thai home, complete with a white-picket fence. The rooms are housed in an old wooden building, and there's a common area, which offers plenty of table space, a TV, a shelfful of books, a tour desk, and two computer stations. It's where everyone hangs out, and where the free breakfast is served. The vibe is social, and the hostel is a good place to meet other travelers. There's a self-service refrigerator filled with cold beer and soft drinks, and several fans keep the temperature cool.

Location

In a quiet alley near the river and Khao San Road

Khaosan Baan Thai is located near the Chao Phraya River, and is a short walk to the Phra Athit ferry pier, which offers access to many of Bangkok's most popular tourist sights. The guesthouse is set in a quiet alley, with little traffic or noise. While it is a long way from the skytrain and subway, as well as the city center, there is still plenty to do in the neighborhood. Khao San Road, which has hundreds of eating and drinking spots, is a 10-minute walk away, as is Phra Athit Road.

Rooms

Basic rooms with mattresses on the floor, and shared bathrooms and showers

There are 10 basic rooms at Khaosan Baan Thai, and only six rooms have air-conditioning. The others have fans. Rooms consist of mattresses on the floor, small wooden stands or desks, mirrors, lamps, and a couple of bottles of free drinking water. They do not have televisions, mini-fridges, or safes, although valuables can be stored at the front desk. All rooms share bathrooms, which have separate toilet  and shower facilities. Despite their spartan quality, the rooms are gaily colored and clean, and all have free Wi-Fi. A few of the Deluxe Rooms have small sitting areas, with chairs and tables out front.
