Bottom Line

The iCheck inn Mayfair Pratunam is a 49-room, mid-range hotel somewhat hidden away off the main hotel drag around Pratunam Market. It might seem a bit out of the city center, but is actually right near the Airport Link and does have a free tuk-tuk shuttle for getting closer to all the dining and shopping. Standard rooms here are quite small, but have closet space, flat-screen TVs, and a modern, cheerful aesthetic; the highest end Deluxe rooms do give a bit more space. There are a small rooftop gym with great views, and a small restaurant/bar in the lobby to chill out in. For a modern and clean hotel, this property is a decent deal compared to some of its neighbors, and it certainly is in a quiet spot.

Scene

Bright and cool lobby with restaurant, bar, and Wi-Fi is the only place to hang out.

For such a compact hotel, the iCheck inn Mayfair Pratunam is a pretty happening place. Perhaps that is due to the fact that most guests gather in the property's only real public space, which is the lobby. It's bright, modern, and hip down here, with the cool little Millennio Bar and Restaurant providing a good spot to hang out, use the free Wi-Fi, and enjoy the cold air-conditioning. Decor-wise, the sleek white flooring and furniture are complemented by pale green dividing glass, and windows overlooking leafy trees. It's mostly couples staying here, as the rooms are pretty small and not too group-friendly; the hotel tends to receive a lot of Southeast Asian traffic, particularly Malaysians and Singaporeans. The area's close proximity to the wholesale shopping mecca of Pratunam Market also attracts a budget-shopping crowd. While the hotel itself is pretty chic by this neighborhood's standards, it is nevertheless a very laid-back spot, and guests certainly won't find anyone dressed up or putting on airs here.

Location

A bit out of the way and hidden, but free 24-hour tuk-tuk shuttle helps

The iCheck inn Mayfair Pratunam sits quite hidden down a very quiet side street slightly out of the city center. It's actually not far from all the hustle and bustle, but is placed in an area that can be tough to get into and out of. While the hotel is within about 10 minutes' walk of the Airport Rail Link, it still is a bit of a hike to the adjoining Skytrain station; most areas that guests will be heading to (the Pratunam Market, Central World, Panthip Plaza, and all the restaurants and bars of Sukhumvit) are not that easy to reach, and about 10 to 20 minutes' walk. The hotel does provide a free 24-hour tuk tuk shuttle to various transport stations, Pratunam Market, and central Petchaburi Road. Road traffic in this area can also be horrible during rush hour times.

Rooms

Tiny rooms but modern and cheery with good air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi

The rooms here are compact to say the least, with the tiny Standard rooms clocking in at just 22 square meters. That said, they do have closet space, and are quite cheery and bright, with white floors and bedding, wood paneling, and modern decor overall. All categories of rooms come with hot water kettles for tea and coffee, minibars, LCD flat-screen TVs, good air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. The Deluxe rooms give quite a bit more space; guests not planning to eat breakfast on the premises can get rates in this (and the Superior) category for not much more than the Standard room rate that includes breakfast. One drawback to the rooms is that security regulations require that the glass doors opening out onto mini-balconies are not allowed to be opened (and are permanently locked), meaning one can't step out for any fresh air.

Features

Rooftop gym with grand views of the Baiyoke Tower, massage shop, and small lobby bar

This small hotel does not have too many extras. There is no swimming pool, although there is a tiny gym up on the roof. While it doesn't have many machines or equipment, the gym does have some of the best views of the Baiyoke Tower (Bangkok's tallest building) in town, with the giant tower soaring right in one's face. Riding an exercise bicycle here may certainly take exercise to new heights! The hotel also has a small restaurant and bar downstairs in the lobby, which serves throughout the day and evening. There are an Internet corner and luggage storage down in the lobby, as well. Adjoining the hotel is a small massage shop with vivid red rooms up a narrow winding staircase.
