Bottom Line

Located in Bangkok’s bustling Pratunam neighborhood, Hotel Vista Express offers up no-frills, three-pearl property along with a few flashy public spaces. The hotel’s 77 rooms are IKEA-basic but have contemporary decor and convenient amenities like minibars and kettles. Aside from a moody, back-lit restaurant, Hotel Vista doesn’t have any additional on-site features. But a good location and affordable rates keep the guests coming. Travelers looking for a property with more features may want to compare rates with Citin Pratunam Hotel, which offers the same attractive location but also tacks on a small spa and fitness center.

Hotel Vista Express

Scene

Modern budget hotel with a top-notch location for shopping

Hotel Vista Express adds a bit of flashiness to its chain-hotel facade with a row of diagonal white stripes crossing over its front windows. Beyond its entrance, partially hidden behind rows of street stalls, the lobby also attempts to amp up its base-level look. Modish decor gives the dimly lit space a contemporary aesthetic, while wood-beamed ceilings and striped cushions pick up on the facade's theme. That said, the mass-produced furniture and minor signs of wear-and-tear hint at the hotel’s no-frills mid-range category, which only becomes more apparent in guest rooms.

Still, travelers aren't drawn here by the decor. They're looking to be immersed in the Vista Express' lively neighborhood, which offers an ideal location for shopping. It’s certainly possible to find hotels with more features at the same price point, but Hotel Vista Express’s central location and practical rooms make it decent value for guests planning to spend most of their time out browsing.

Location

On the second floor of a shopping mall in the buzzing Pratunam neighborhood

Hotel Vista Express is located in Pratunam Market, one of Bangkok’s most well-known shopping areas, where it’s surrounded by a dizzying array of shops, restaurants, convenience stores, and cafes. Set on the second floor of the Four Seasons mall in a narrow, crowded alley, the property can be tricky for some first-time guests to locate. The neighborhood is excellent for those looking for a great bargain, but some may find the atmosphere too chaotic.

More shopping is found nearby with Platinum Mall and Siam Paragon Mall less than 15 minutes away by foot. There are several BTS stops, including Ratchathewi and Chidlom, about a 15-minute walk away. Most of the city’s top attractions are more far-flung, with the Grand Palace and Wat Arun a little over an hour away by public transportation. Suvarnabhumi Airport can be reached in about 30 minutes via public transportation, with Ratchaprarop airport railway link station found a seven-minute walk away.

Rooms

Straight-forward, contemporary rooms include minibars and coffee-and-tea-making facilities

Simple to the point of feeling spartan, guest rooms at Hotel Vista Express are done up in blond wood modular furniture offset by a few cherry-red upholstered pieces. It's a streamlined look, but it feels IKEA-basic. Artwork is noticeably missing, as the black or gray walls left bare except for 32-inch flat-screen LED TVs, which are mounted across from beds. The beds are fitted with white linens and backed by light wood headboards with built-in nightstands. Each room also includes a vanity area with a shelf, mirror, and wall-mounted hairdryer. Wooden shelving units hold kettles and minibars stocked with beer and bottled water. Free Wi-Fi is included, but some guests report the connection can be spotty. Bathrooms have a bit more character, fitted with attractive stone-colored tiles and glass-walled showers with rainfall showerheads. Single glass shelves set above round white pedestal sinks hold individual soaps and shampoos.

Deluxe Rooms are the standard room category, while Club Luxx rooms add larger living areas (though decor remains basic). Vista Suites include both a king-size bed and an additional single bed. Discerning guests may notice cleanliness here is not immaculate -- you might see some stains on the walls or signs of mold in the bathroom. Some guests also report that street-facing rooms can be noisy.

Features

Modest restaurant and guest PC

On-site features at this simple mid-range hotel are minimal, reflecting the fact that guests tend to spend limited time on the property. There’s a restaurant with dark gray-and-black decor on the second floor that offers lunch and dinner. Its menu of European and Thai cuisine gets mixed reviews from guests, and we noticed the dining room had a slightly musty smell during our visit. Some room rates include a buffet breakfast and room service is also available.

A PC is offered in the lobby for guests to use, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout, although some guests have noted that the connection can be unreliable. The hotel also offers luggage storage and staff can assist with rental cars, airport transfers, and travel bookings, among other concierge services.
