The three-pearl Happy 3 is an ultra-modern boutique hotel that opened on a quiet side street in central Bangkok in 2015. It’s within a short walk to attractions such as the Jim Thompson House and MBK Center, as well as the National Stadium BTS Stadium. The 50-room property features an airy and open lobby with a 24/7 bar/cafe and floor-to-ceiling windows. Other highlights include a restaurant serving breakfast (not free) and lunch, room service, a beautiful outdoor pool, and free covered parking and Wi-Fi. The rooms are sleek and minimalist, with bamboo floors and walk-in showers. Standard rooms are small but nicely outfitted with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and safes. Rates are attractive, but the upper-middle-range Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam offers free breakfast in a more convenient location.
Scene
A decidedly modern tourist hotel with an airy and open lobby
Tucked away on a quiet side street, this boutique hotel that opened in 2015, looks modern and inviting from the outside. Inside is equally enticing, with an airy and open lobby that’s flooded with natural light from two stories of floor-to-ceiling windows looking out upon the lush landscaping that surrounds the hotel. Polished concrete floors and bamboo furniture and paneling create a minimalist vibe, but the cozy bar and clusters of ultra-modern chairs and sofas keep it from looking too cold or sterile. Expect to hear several different languages spoken, as many Chinese, Europeans, and American tourists frequent this hotel.
Location
On a quiet side street, within walking distance of many top attractions in central Bangkok
The Happy 3 is located on a quiet side street, but it’s still centrally located within walking distance to many popular attractions. Numerous restaurants are also within a few minutes on foot. The Jim Thompson House is reachable via a three-minute walk, and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, MBK Center, Hua Chang Bridge Pier, and National Stadium BTS Station are within five to eight minutes on foot. Siam Square and its BTS Station are a 15-minute walk. It takes about 25 minutes via public transit to reach the Golden Buddha and Koh San Road’s dazzling array of trinket shops and bars. The Suvarnabhumi Airport takes about 40 minutes to reach by train.
Rooms
Clean and modern, with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi
These decidedly modern rooms feature a striking minimalist decor that’s highlighted by light bamboo floors and modular-style furniture that creates a clean and sleek look. Walls and solid drapes are brownish gray and the comfortable beds have bright white duvets. Plenty of light from large windows creates a cheery vibe despite the lack of any vibrant accent colors. Rooms come in four categories and sizes. The Type A Two Cube (standard) rooms are rather small, but comfortable due to the clever use of available space. Multiple shelves and hangers on stainless steel rods provide ample storage space in lieu of closets. Type C rooms feature one king bed and one twin bed, and Type D Suites are twice the size of standard rooms and have one king bed. Standard amenities include mini-fridges, coffeemakers, safes, slippers, flat-screen TVs, and magnifying mirrors. Free bottled water and free Wi-Fi also are provided. The most distinctive aspect of these open rooms is the lack of doors separating the bathrooms from the hallways and bedrooms. That feature, combined with frosted glass panels separating bedroom areas from bathrooms, creates a lack of privacy that some past guests have found unappealing. The bathrooms are quite stylish, with separate twin sinks, lots of shelf space for toiletries, and roomy walk-in showers with frosted glass doors and rainfall showerheads. Suites have separate tubs and showers. The rooms are quiet but don’t feature much of a view.
Features
Free breakfast, 24-hour bar, outdoor covered pool, and free covered parking
The bright and open lobby of this small hotel has a bar and cafe that’s open 24 hours. It serves alcoholic beverages, coffee drinks, pastries, sandwiches, and other light fare. The Sunrise Restaurant is a simple, cafeteria-style eatery that serves a hot breakfast buffet daily (for a fee) that includes omelets and other egg dishes. It's open for lunch, which focuses on locally-sourced, seasonal items. The beautiful outdoor pool is covered by a wood deck and surrounded by lush landscaping and comfortable loungers. It gets little sun, however, so don’t expect to sunbathe there. Parking is free in a covered lot. Hotel services include valet dry cleaning and laundry. Wi-Fi is free and accessible throughout the hotel, and two computers and a printer in the lobby serve as the business center.
