The 164 rooms range from tiny to spacious, and all have similar decor with dark-gray floors and accents and large photo murals depicting Bangkok nighttime cityscapes above the beds. Features include a small fitness center and a courtyard pool with massage jets, plus free Wi-Fi and reasonably priced valet parking. There's also a bright restaurant with a breakfast buffet and a rotation of Thai street food at lunch, plus room service, but no dinner. Travelers looking for self-catering options in the area may want to also consider The Key Bangkok Hotel by Compass Hospitality, which offers apartment-style rooms with kitchens or kitchenettes.
Scene
Hip, mid-range hotel with industrial-style interiors -- popular with vacationing families and couples
Galleria 12 is a sleek, mid-range hotel that appeals to families and couples looking for decent amenities and a central Sukhumvit location. The lobby has an industrial vibe with granite ceilings and dark-gray floors, plus sagging black leather sofas situated around steel-framed black coffee tables. Rooms are housed in two buildings (with eight and nine floors, respectively) that appear connected from the lobby but are accessible by separate elevators, which helps keep foot traffic down a bit. Off to one side of the lobby is the hotel's restaurant, with gray floors but a brighter vibe, owing to light-wood tables and wall paneling and big floor-to-ceiling windows. Glass doors lead out to the pool area -- the main place for congregating in this mid-sized property.
Location
On a quiet back road in Sukhumvit, near street food vendors and a short walk to the Asok skytrain station
This hotel is located on a quiet back street full of street food carts, just south of the Asok BTS (skytrain) station in the Sukhumvit neighborhood. The hotel offers a free 24-hour tuk-tuk shuttle to the main road, but it only takes a couple of minutes to walk to it. The whole area has a high concentration of tailor shops, bars, restaurants, massage parlors, and malls (the huge Terminal 21 shopping mall is a three-minute walk away). Getting to tourist attractions is easy and straightforward. The Grand Palace and the Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Pho) each take about a half-hour to reach when there's no traffic. Wat Saket (Golden Mountain) is 25 minutes away via the Sirat Expressway. The stunning Jim Thompson House, the beautiful former home of a famous American silk entrepreneur, is about 20 minutes away by car. Getting to the city's two airports from the hotel is straightforward. It's 45 minutes by car or public transportation to Suvarnabhumi Airport (but can take twice as long during rush hour). Dong Mueang International Airport takes around an hour to reach by car (or 90 minutes by public transportation).
Rooms
Sleek rooms range from cramped to spacious, all with rainfall showers and modern decor
Rooms vary quite a bit in terms of size from the cramped 22-square-meter (237-square-foot) Slender and Cool Rooms (the latter have better views), up to 40-square-meter (431-square-foot) Galleria Club Suites. All units have similar decor and amenities: free Wi-Fi, safes, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Decor is sleek and modern, with dark-gray parquet floors, gray wainscoting and throw cushions, and huge photo murals of Bangkok nighttime cityscapes. All but the Galleria Club Suites come in either two twin beds or king bed configurations, and connecting rooms are available in most categories (save for the Slender and Garden G units). Suites are all studio-style and come with two small sofas, plus big fridges and microwaves. These units add perks such as free airport transfers and free minibars. Garden G units have balconies with tables and chairs. Bathrooms across categories have a similar color scheme to what's found in the main rooms, with dark-gray floors and tiles, square vessel sinks, and big mirrors, plus compact walk-in rainfall showers. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided, but robes and slippers are not. Slender and Cool Rooms have big windows that look out into the common areas.
Features
Sleek fitness center, small pool with massage jets, and restaurant with buffet breakfast and street-food lunch
Features at the Galleria 12 are as sleek and modern as the rooms. There's a smallish, but well-equipped gym, with modern cardio equipment, free weights, and a cross-training machine. There's also a small but pretty outdoor pool with a dark mosaic bottom and lots of powerful built in massage jets. It's surrounded by dark-gray lounge chairs in both sunny and shaded areas. The hotel's casual restaurant, Tabloid Bar & Bistro, offers a huge, nominally priced breakfast buffet with Thai and international items. Indoor and poolside dining are available, as well as room service. A la carte breakfast is available until well into the afternoon. At lunchtime, the restaurant sets up street food-style options, with six different dishes available every day. Drinks service is available until well into the evening, but dinner isn't served.Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and valet parking is available for a small fee. Guests can also sign up for a Galleria Club add-on, which comes with perks such as free one-way transfers to the airport, free minibars, and 24-hour checkout.
