An upscale, 281-room hotel that's connected to the Watergate Pavillion Shopping Mall, the Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel Bangkok is a stylish, trendy place to stay in the heart of the city. The public spaces are especially impressive, from the chic rooftop bar that glows in cool shades of neon come evening, to the outdoor lounge area with over-water, cabana-style day beds. Rooms are big and minimalist in style, decorated in white, and outfitted with all the requisite amenities; bathrooms are stylized, some with cylindrical, aquarium-inspired showers. The hotel is in a perfect location for those in town to shop, as it's right in the heart of the city's many luxury shopping malls. Compare with the Glow Pratunam Hotel, a five-minute walk away, which has similar rates and the added perk of a swimming pool.
Scene
Sleek, all-white decor, with the occasional pop of color, and a trendy atmosphere
Enter the Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel Bangkok via the rear of the Watergate Pavillion Shopping and Leisure Complex, before taking the elevator up to the ninth-floor lobby. The lobby is bright and airy, with polished white floors, walls of windows, purple and gray seating areas, and colorful, patterned rugs. The R&B music being streamed throughout will either soothe or annoy. There's a plethora of public spaces to hang out in, from the cabana day beds in Moom Sabai to Cafe 9's monochrome seating and cage-like booths. The rooftop Walk bar is a scene-y Bangkok nightlife spot, with its panoramic city views and R&B-video-inspired all-white furnishings. The hotel has a young, hip atmosphere, and is mostly popular with couples and families, but it's probably got a tad too much of a party mood for business travelers.
Location
Close to all the shopping and a half-hour bus ride away from the Grand Palace
Located just above the Centara Watergate Pavillion shopping center, the Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel is within walking distance of Bangkok's many luxury malls; the largest, Central World, is less than a 10-minute walk down the road. Pratunam Market, Platinum Fashion Mall, and Pantip Plaza are all also nearby, making the hotel a perfect pick for those who want to indulge in some retail therapy. Siam Ocean World is a four-minute bus ride away, and is a great day out for children (and adults); it's one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia and has hundreds of different species on display. The Erawan Shrine is a 15-minute walk from the hotel and the Grand Palace is 30 minutes away on the bus. The hotel is about 30 minutes away from Suvarnabhumi airport via the Airport Rail Link; the closest skytrain station is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel can also arrange airport transfers.
Rooms
Modern and spacious, with sleek all-white furnishings and city rooftop views, but without bathrobes or slippers
The rooms at the Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel Bangkok have a light and airy contemporary design, with an ambience that reflects the Pratunam neighborhood's fashionable reputation. The walls and furnishing are all-white, with pops of color provided by hot-pink cushions or olive green sofas. Rooms vary in size, from family-friendly doubles, to extra-spacious suites, to those with bunk beds in separate areas. Beds have all white linen and recessed lighting around the headboards, with soft mattress toppers, as well as a pillow menu. Top-tier suites even have private balconies. Bathrooms are similarly modern and sleek, with all-white stone and luxury toiletries. Some rooms have soaking tubs, but most rooms have futuristic-looking all-glass, cylindrical showers -- the peek-a-boo design has a voyeuristic quality, but they also have curtains for the modest. Each room has air-conditioning, a minibar, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a flat-screen TV, hairdryer, desk, and free Wi-Fi. Note that rooms lack bathrobes and slippers.
