Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit

A modern tower in a trendy neighborhood, the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit looks every bit as sleek, cool, and contemporary as it should. With floor-to-ceiling windows several stories high, polished marble floors, ornate chandeliers, and dark-wood shelves adorned with Thai ceramics, the lobby feels elegant, stylish, and luxuriously understated. The lobby spills over into a similarly refined cafe area, filled with plush, black and tan chairs topped with patterned red pillows; the patterned floral carpet does feel a bit chain-like, but then, this is a chain hotel. All  the hotel's restaurants do feel business-oriented, and a bit perfunctorily "upscale" with modern-art-style chandeliers and clean-lined everything; the Executive Lounge, in particular, lives up to its name in an almost sterile room of tables and chairs. The rooftop bar, however, has several levels of stylized decks and bars, and 360-degree views. The roof terrace infinity pool, with its view-facing lounges, is similarly impressive.

The Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit is located just off a major thoroughfare in the trendy neighborhood of Sukhumvit, which bustles with shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. There are a number of trendy restaurants, bars, and clubs within walking distance of the hotel. The closest skytrain stop is just around the corner, making it easy to get around the city, to major tourist attractions and into the center. Suvarnabhumi International Airport is approximately 40 minutes away by car, and Don Mueang International Airport is a similar distance; the hotel offers transfers to and from the former and a shuttle to and from the latter, both for a steep fee. Self- and valet parking are both free at the hotel.

Rooms and suites at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit are sleek, modern, and luxurious in an upscale-chain-hotel way. All are bright and light, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city, and are decked out with hardwood floors, patterned rugs, clean-lined furniture in neutral tones, wood panelling and furnishings, modern artwork, and, in some, pops of color in the sitting areas. All rooms have large desks with ergonomic chairs, and suites also have separate, larger sitting areas, and some even having dining tables and areas large enough to entertain. Bathrooms are tiled in marble and have separate, walk-in areas with both  walk-in rainfall showers and a soaking tubs, with a window offering rooftop views. Bathrooms also have Thann toiletries, bathrobes, and slippers. All rooms also have flat-screen TVs with premium movie channels, fully stocked alcoholic minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi for Marriott members only. Executive level rooms include access to the Executive Lounge, as well as free Wi-Fi and two pieces of pressing per day, but the rooms are otherwise generally the same. Higher-floor rooms tend to be the quietest, although those near the rooftop bars can get some noise. It's worth noting that some guests complain that the rooms are small for the price.

The Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit has a wide range of facilities that cater to both high-end travelers and business travelers. As the hotel is located in a trendy neighborhood known for its nightlife, it's notable that the scene at the rooftop bar and lounge, Octave, is a well-heeled one popular with discerning locals. The other eating spots include 57th Street, an international, all-day restaurant with a wide range of buffet options; The District Grill Room & Bar, a high-end steakhouse; the Azure Pool Bar; and the Chocolate Cake Company, a casual cafe specializing in pastries and desserts. An American breakfast is served daily for a fee. The roof terrace infinity pool and its bright red lounges and sunbeds overlook the city's rooftops; there's also an attached hot tub and a kids' pool. The hotel has a full-service outpost of the world-renowned Anne Semonin Spa, and booking treatments in advance is recommended. There's also a modern, state-of-the-art fitness center, with hardwood floors, windows overlooking the city, and plenty of equipment. The hotel also has a number of meeting and event spaces, as well as a full-service business center. The Executive Lounge, open to guests in Executive level rooms, includes free breakfast, afternoon tea, and snacks and drinks throughout the day, as well as perks such as free Wi-Fi. Otherwise, Wi-Fi is only free for Marriott members.
