Bottom Line

Admiral Suites is a simple, if dated, three-pearl apartment hotel in the heart of busy Sukhumvit. The 62 rooms come in studio and one-bedroom configurations, and all have furnished balconies along with kitchenettes with microwaves (most also have hobs). Facilities include an outdoor pool along with a fitness center with cardio and weight-training equipment, a sauna, and a cafe offering free breakfast (served until late in the morning). Unlike many hotels in the area, there's ample free on-site parking, and while the hotel is a short walk from the main road (where two skytrain stations are located), there's no area shuttle. Travelers shopping around for budget-friendly properties in the area may want to also consider THEE Hotel just around the corner, which offers reasonably priced rooms, but lacks a pool.

Scene

Simple mid-range apartment hotel housed in a plain white building with dated interiors

Admiral Suites is a simple, mid-range apartment hotel situated in a plain whitewashed building tucked just off one of the many arteries that runs south from the main road in Sukhumvit. The property is fronted by a large parking lot with a dental office and a salon occupying the ground floor. Inside, the lobby is functional, but dated, with granite and tile floors, recessed lighting, and lots of light-wood furniture. There's a living room-like seating area off to one side with some worn rust-hued chairs and sofas, plus a table with newspapers and paperback books for guests to borrow. An elevator connects to rooms. This hotel gets a variety of travelers from Europe and elsewhere in Asia, and though most of the people who stay here are tourists, it does attract some business travelers.

Location

Central Sukhumvit location, a short walk from the main road and BTS skytrain stations

This hotel is located just off of Soi 22 in Sukhumvit, a five-minute walk from the main road. The whole area is lively, especially in the evening, with lots of bars, mini-marts, snack carts, and therapeutic spas nearby, and there's an alley full of massage parlors of the illicit variety just across from the hotel. Phrom Phong and Asok BTS (skytrain) stations are more or less equidistant from the hotel and each takes around 14 minutes to reach. Getting to tourist attractions is fairly easy: Jim Thompson House is about a half-hour away by skytrain, the Royal Palace takes about 30 minutes to reach by car, and Wat Arun is about a 35-minute taxi ride away. Both major airports, Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport, are around 45 minutes to an hour away from the hotel, but give yourself up to 90 minutes during rush hour, just to be safe.

Rooms

Simple studio-style and one-bedroom rooms with kitchenettes and furnished balconies

This hotel offers four types of room, ranging from 37-square-meter (398-square-foot) Superior Studios up to one-bedroom Admiral Suites, which are around twice as large. Overall, rooms are pleasant but feel a bit dated, and furniture could use an update. All have a similar decor scheme, with dark parquet floors and coordinating dark-wood tables, chairs, and headboards, plus simple white bedding accented by cream-and-beige runners and throw cushions and similarly toned curtains and wall art. Standard amenities include small fridges and microwaves, safes, air-conditioning, stereos, and flat-screen TVs with cable, and free Wi-Fi. All but the Superior Studios add hot plates and all rooms have furnished balconies. Bathrooms are simple and dated, with gray granite countertops and shower/tub combos (in studio-configured units) or walk-in showers in (one-bedrooms). Toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Free breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi plus pool, fitness center, and self-serve and valet laundry service

Amenities include a large but sparsely equipped fitness center with a few cardio machines and some weights. There's also a sauna, a medium-size outdoor pool with a few lounge chairs, and a guest laundry room with coin-operated washing machines and dryers. The hotel offers same-day laundry and dry-cleaning service for a fee. A simple breakfast is served at the adjacent Parrot Cafe until late morning and is included in room rates. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Unlike many hotels in the area, Admiral Suites does not offer a free tuk-tuk shuttle service to the main road. There's plenty of free on-site parking.
