Scene

A quiet downtown hotel with a tropical garden setting and an elegant Balinese aesthetic

Yulia Village Inn features a classic Balinese aesthetic, with red brick facades, stone gates, flowing koi ponds, and manicured tropical gardens. Inside, the property is quiet and peaceful even though it's located along Ubud's busiest tourist hub. The most attractive hotel facility is the outdoor swimming pool, which features a tranquil garden setting and has plenty of lounge chairs laid out to relax on, plus a wooden poolside cabana. Although the grounds and interiors are mostly clean and well maintained, the hotel has been open since 1993 and is a bit rough around some edges. The restaurant and lobby are especially dated and in need of a makeover. The hotel has a relaxed vibe and a majority of the guests who stay here are families and older couples.

Location

On bustling Monkey Forest Street in downtown Ubud, near bars, restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries

The hotel is ideally located along the buzzing Monkey Forest Street, in downtown Ubud, which is lined with a huge concentration of bars, restaurants, boutiques, and handicraft shops. Traffic in the area can get quite congested and it's easiest to get around on foot. Most of Ubud's attractions are within a 10- to 15-minute walk from the hotel, including the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, the Ubud Palace, and the Ubud handicrafts market. Ubud is known for its fine art galleries and museums. Some of the most iconic museums to see are: the Puri Museum Lukisan, Blanco Renaissance Museum, and Arma Museum -- all around a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Those interested in health and wellness should check out Radiantly Alive Yoga, Taksu Yoga, and The Yoga Barn, which are all located in the downtown area around 10 minutes away by car, depending on traffic. Plan on around 90 minutes for airport transfers.

Rooms

Stylish contemporary interiors with Balinese decorations, furnished balconies, and modern amenities

Rooms at the Yulia Village Inn feature red brick exterior facades, intricately carved wooden doors, stylish contemporary interiors, and balconies. Floor plans are a bit compact but the rooms are bright and airy, plus they feature a fresh aesthetic that combines Balinese and modern stylings. Sparse white walls are tastefully decorated with paintings done by local artists, as well as floral wallpaper and woven rattan accents. Additional pops of color come from the floral-patterned bed runners and throw pillows. Rooms are outfitted with wood beds with quality mattresses, upholstered couches, work tables and chairs, TV cabinets with storage drawers, and roomy wardrobes. Standard modern amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, safes, telephones, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and bottled water. All room types have similar decor and floor plans, with the most defining difference being the views. Only two rooms overlook the rice fields, whereas all others face the garden pathways, pool, or neighboring buildings. Rooms with interconnecting doors are also available.

Bathrooms are clean and modern, but are simple affairs and tight on space, containing just a small vanity counter and mirror plus a glassed off shower cubicle with a rainfall showerhead. Hairdryers and free toiletries are provided.

Features

Swimming pool with a tropical setting, a small lounge, a breakfast restaurant, and free Wi-Fi

The hotel's facilities cater to tourists. The most attractive feature is the pool, and it's often a hub of activity during the day. It offers a natural green setting and a stone pool deck, light blue tiles, plenty of lounge chairs, and a wooden cabana. Adjoining the pool is a small semi open-air lounge with hardwood couches, plus dining tables and chairs. The lounge is elegantly decorated with traditional Balinese wood and stone carvings, plus reading material is available in the lounge for guests to borrow. The restaurant is open for breakfast only, but room service is available until late evening. Breakfast is included in most room rates and is served a la carte, with a selection of Indonesian, American, and Continental options. Other extras include daily afternoon tea and snacks, plus free Wi-Fi and parking.
