Villa Komea is an upper-middle-range hotel located on the outskirts of downtown Cangu and Seminyak. Batu Belig Beach is a 15-minute walk from the hotel and the trendy Petitenget area is around 10 minutes away by car. This intimate hotel is tranquil and secluded, and features both one- and two-bedroom villas, which are private and walled off. Villas have modern, bright, and airy interiors, with Balinese touches. All feature tropical gardens, roomy plunge pools, semi open-air living rooms, and full kitchens. Common facilities like a restaurant, main pool, and spa are missing, though room service and in-room spa treatments are offered. Nunia Boutique Villas offers similar rates and features to Komea, though is located less than a 10-minute walk from downtown Seminyak and Petitenget.
Scene
An intimate and secluded all-villa hotel, with a tranquil and romantic ambience
Villa Komea is a small property with a serene garden setting. Although near both downtown Seminyak and Canggu, it feels far removed from the high energy of Bali's popular tourist hubs. The property features manicured tropical gardens and lotus ponds with constant running water that creates a cooling effect throughout. Each villa compound is surrounded by tall walls, which helps to maintain a high level of privacy. However, the only common facility is the hotel lobby, which is housed in a Balinese pavilion. As such, this isn't the place to bed down for travelers who like to socialize on their trips. The hotel is most popular with couples given the romantic setting. Both families and groups also frequent the hotel, and the two-bedroom villas here offer plenty of space to spread out.
Location
A 10-minute drive from excellent dining and nightlife; 15-minute walk from Batu Belig Beach
Located along a busy side-street, on the outskirts of downtown Canggu, the hotel is less than a 10-minute drive from the trendy Petitenget neighborhood. The immediate area is mainly lined with residences, small hotels, and rice fields, though there are some shops and decent dining options within walking distance. Batu Belig Beach is around 15 minutes from the hotel on foot and offers up some decent surfing waves, though isn't safe for swimming due to the heavy riptides. Unfortunately, the beaches along this coastline aren't the cleanest in Bali and there is often debris and trash washed up along the sand, especially during wet season. Canggu Club is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel and features a fitness and trampoline center, a bowling alley, and water park. The Petitenget area features some excellent dining options, nightlife, and beach clubs, including Metis, Sarong, Merah Putih, Potato Head Beach Club Beach, and the W Resort Bali -- all of which are located around a 10- to 15-minute drive from the hotel. Both Kuta Beach and the airport take about 45 minutes to reach from the hotel, though that varies depending on traffic.
Rooms
Spacious and private air-conditioned villas, with plunge pools, gardens, open living areas, and free Wi-Fi
Both one- and two-bedroom villas are available, and both categories feature plenty of space, tropical gardens, roomy plunge pools, semi open-air living rooms, and full kitchens. Villa compounds are surrounded by tall walls, which helps keep noise out while adding privacy. Interiors are bright, and bedrooms are surrounded by glass walls looking out onto the pools. The look is sharp and modern, and includes natural materials throughout, with exposed red brick accent walls, terra-cotta and concrete tile floors, and teak furniture. All villas have king-size beds, spacious wardrobes, work desks and chairs, and comfy wooden couches. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with DVD players and cable channels, iPod docks, safes, and mineral water. Kitchens are equipped with stovetops, electric kettles, mini-fridges, and toasters.
Both categories are almost identical, though two-bedroom options have larger kitchens plus longer plunge pools that are better for laps. Bathrooms overlook tropical gardens, are semi open-air, and have chic natural stylings, with exposed red brick and polished concrete accent walls. There are also large wooden vanities with terrazzo sinks, rainfall showers, and deep soaking tubs. The villas we saw during our visit were spotlessly clean. However, guests should note that because the bathrooms and living areas are partially outdoors, there are bound to be mosquitoes and other tropical critters on occasion.
Features
Room service for all meals, free bicycles to borrow, daily shuttles, and free Wi-Fi
Villa Komea is a small hotel and doesn't offer any on-site facilities besides a small lobby area, which is merely a place to check-in. Room service is available for all meals and in-room spa treatments are offered. An a la carte breakfast is included in most room packages and is served directly to the villas. The breakfast selection is decent and the portion sizes are adequate. In-room dining experiences are also offered, such as romantic candle-lit dinners with a private chef, or poolside barbecues. Bicycles are provided for free and the front desk can arrange tours and vehicle rentals. A free shuttle service operates all day into downtown Seminyak and Canggu. Some hotel packages also include free airport transfers. Wi-Fi and parking are both free.
