The hotel spa is small and shows some wear and tear
The Wolas Villas & Spa is an upscale, all-villa property located in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Seminyak, about a 10-minute drive from the beach. The 16 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units are spacious, with decor that fuses elegant, modern construction with a Balinese aesthetic. All have open-air living rooms, kitchens, and plunge pools surrounded by wooden decks. Pathways leading to the villas are lined with tropical greenery, and hotel facilities include a restaurant that serves continental cuisine and Asian fare. There's also a small spa with private couples massage rooms, though we found that it shows some wear. Travelers looking for more luxurious villas that are closer to the beach can consider Maca Villas.
Scene
Lush grounds and a tranquil atmosphere for couples and some families
The Wolas Villas & Spa has a tranquil and private atmosphere, and feels far removed from the busy streets of nearby Seminyak. Rich details and features can be found throughout the property, and while the vibe is decidedly sophisticated, it's generally laid-back and unpretentious. The airy lobby features cream marble floors, intricately carved stone statues, potted tropical palms, and comfy upholstered couches. The wide hotel pathways are lined with flowering frangipani trees, palms, and green vines manicured in a classical Balinese style. Guests gather at the attractive, open-air restaurant, with wooden floor and natural stone walls, surrounded koi ponds. With its romantic setting, the hotel attracts mostly couples, but also some families.
Location
On a quiet street, a 10-minute drive to the beach and Seminyak's hippest neighborhood
The Wolas Villas aren't located in downtown Seminyak, and most popular Seminyak locales are a 10-minute drive or more from the hotel. Dining and shopping options are within walking distance of the property, but reaching them requires crossing a busy highway. Kunti I street, lined with many popular restaurants, spas, shops, and Bali Deli (a well stocked grocery store), is a 10-minute walk. The Kayu Aya strip, one of Bali's hippest areas, is a 10-minute drive away and features some of the best dining, shopping, and nightlife on the island. The street is teeming with designer boutiques, coffee shops, fine dining restaurants, and funky bars. The nearest beach is Seminyak Beach, which is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. The airport takes around 22-minutes by car to reach, more with traffic.
Rooms
Open-air living rooms, kitchens, and large plunge pools surrounded by wooden decks
The villas at Wolas are stylish and comfortable, and all have huge living rooms, sizable plunge pools, and elegant marble bathrooms featuring deep soaking tubs. Aesthetically, the villas' decor and furniture is a seamless blend of modern and Balinese design elements.
Bedrooms have clean lines, and light walls with traditional Balinese accents and colorful, modern abstract paintings. There are Japanese-style platform beds, and large teak wardrobes and desks. Plunge pools are tiled in cobalt blue, surrounded by wooden decks with flowering frangipani trees, and walls with carved limestone reliefs. The living spaces feature lounge areas with upholstered couches and dining areas with wooden tables and chairs. Kitchens are equipped with gas burners, microwaves, kettles, toasters, large counters, and full-size refrigerators.
Standard amenities include air-conditioning, 42-inch flat-screen TVs with DVD players and satellite channels, robes, slippers, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are posh, with grey marble tile, black terrazzo vanities with double basin sinks, deep soaking tubs, indoor and outdoor showers, hairdryers, and ample toiletries.
Villas are quite spacious in comparison to villa properties located downtown -- the one-bedroom villas are 2,152 square feet (200 square meters), and the two-bedroom villas are 3,229 square feet (300 square meters).
Features
Open-air restaurant, free shuttle to Seminyak, and free Wi-Fi, but the spa shows wear
Facilities at the Wolas Villas are limited, with a focus on drinking and dining. Most room rates include breakfast, which can be served in villas for no extra charge, or guests can dine in the hotel's full-service restaurant, with a menu featuring continental cuisine and Asian fare.
There's a small spa containing just two couples treatment rooms that offers a variety of massage and beauty treatments. During our visit, we noticed that while the spa is tidy, it showed some wear and tear, including scuffed wooden floors, scratched paint, and stained bathroom tiles.
There's a designated area for hotel guests at Seminyak Beach, where there are beach chairs and towels available at no extra charge. The hotel offers a free one-way shuttle to Seminyak and Kuta that operates twice daily. Parking spaces are available for guests on-site, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
