The 78-unit Villas at AYANA Resort is a huge, opulent property on a private beach looking out over the sea. Villas are large and luxurious, with gorgeous bathrooms, garden terraces, and private plunge pools, but no kitchens. The property shares a plethora of amenities with the AYANA Resort and Spa, including a private beach, 11 pools, an 18-hole putting course, a spa, 15 restaurants serving a variety of cuisine types, and the famous cliffside Rock Bar, with beautiful ocean views. This resort is definitely a showstopper, with rates that reflect this. Travelers seeking a more intimate, cheaper option (albeit without the private beach) may want to consider the Kayumanis Jimbaran Private Estate and Spa instead.

The Villas at AYANA Resort is part of a massive, luxurious resort complex shared with AYANA Resort and Spa that features a wide range of amenities. The resort is remote and secluded, packed with stunning vistas and lush garden grounds, any there are so many activities on-site that guests may not feel the need to go elsewhere. There's a high staff-to-guest ratio, and guests are given 24-hour butler phones and personal service. Guests are greeted with welcome drinks, flower-filled baths in their villas, and free half-hour spa treatments (if room booked through hotel website). The clientele includes plenty of couples -- including honeymooners – and families with kids, but there is enough space to find a kid-free zone. The property is particularly popular with Japanese tourists. Note that proper attire is required in many of the bars and restaurants, which adds to the high-end feel of the resort.

On a private beach overlooking the sea, a five-minute drive from Jimbaran Village
The Villas at AYANA Resort is in a remote beachside area just five minutes by car from the galleries, shops, and market at Jimbaran Village. The Jenggala Factory, Jimbaran Beach, New Kuta Beach, and several championship golf courses are a 20-minute drive from the resort, and guests who want to explore the island will need to hire a driver or rent a car to do so. Seminyak, which has excellent nightlife options as well as high-end shopping is a 40-minute drive away. The resort runs a free shuttle to the Bali Collection shopping mall at Nusa Dua, the island’s largest, several times a day. Ubud, one of Bali’s major tourist and cultural destinations, is an hour and a half from the resort by car. The Ngurah Rai airport is a 20-minute drive from the property.

The 78 villas on the property, which come in one-, two-, and three-bedroom configurations, are seriously luxe and combine traditional Balinese elements with modern decor. Units feature elegant wood furniture, canopy beds, thatched roofs in some spaces, marble floors, and local artwork on the walls. Each has a gorgeous private garden patio equipped with a personal plunge pool, lounge chairs, and beach umbrellas; some of these have jaw-dropping ocean views. There are separate living room areas with sofa beds, but no kitchens. Bathrooms are gigantic, with freestanding soaking tubs and separate walk-in showers, plus double vanities and high-end toiletries. Amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, DVD players, iPod docks, pillow menus, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, and safes.

Despite its tucked away setting, the Villas at AYANA Resort has access to an extensive range of amenities at the AYANA Resort and Spa. The property sits on Kubu Beach, a secluded private beach reached via 184 steps down the cliffside. Along with cabanas and lounge chairs, there are two beach bars, and food can be delivered to the beach from the resort restaurants above. There are 11 outdoor pools, including a children’s pool with waterslides and a beautiful saltwater infinity pool along the cliff’s edge, overlooking the beach below. There are also a rooftop pool and a two-tiered river pool.
Thermes Marins Spa Bali is the resort’s full-service spa, with massages available in treatment rooms and on the beach. Other menu options include facials, aromatherapy, Ayurveda, hot stone treatments, body scrubs and wraps, and mani-pedis. The spa also features a sauna, a steam room, and a spa tub for guest use. For the more activity-minded guests, there are a 24-hour fitness center, an 18-hole putting course, and a running, walking, and cycling track. A variety of bike tours and yoga classes are also offered for a fee. The Kids' Club includes a trampoline and a playground, video games, and instruction in arts and crafts and Balinese culture, but it costs extra to access.

The resort offers 15 restaurants, including Kampoeng Bali, which serves traditional Balinese food such as suckling pig, accompanied by cultural performances in a Balinese village setting. Padi serves a pan-Asian mix of Indonesian, Indian, and Thai cuisine in an elegant outdoor dining room with thatched pavilions and a lily pond. Sami-Sami is an Italian-style trattoria on a bluff overlooking the Indian Ocean. Honzen -- the Japanese restaurant -- serves sushi, sashimi, and teppanyaki grills. There are also a steak house, a Chinese restaurant serving dim sum, and a restaurant that serves “global comfort food,” such as burgers and pizza. The Martini Club has a 50-cocktail menu, but it's the resort’s Rock Bar that's an island destination. The super chic Rock Bar is built into a cliff face overlooking the ocean; the sunset views are unmatched, and resort guests have priority when it comes to reservations. There are also six coffee shop/cafes on the property for quick bites or an afternoon latte, plus room service is available around the clock. Guests can also sign up for cooking classes for a fee.
