The Kayana Bali

The Kayana has a quiet, secluded atmosphere despite its location directly on a busy street in central Seminyak. Its lush grounds are dotted with palm trees and local flowers like frangipani that make the property feel a world away from the city buzz. The 24 low-rise stand-alone villas add to the private vibe. Housed in an open pavilion with a thatched roof, the airy lobby is hidden away behind a small manicured garden. Four stone columns topped with traditional Balinese vases tower over a long wooden front desk, while a couple of stylish wooden couches and chairs in earth tones offer seating on either side. The use of wood and stone throughout the property, and the pavilion-style structures housing villas and common spaces give The Kayana a strong local feel, and its sleek contemporary decor is stylish and luxurious. Given the exclusive and serene ambience, the majority of guests here are couples looking for a romantic escape and many are celebrating their honeymoon. 

The hotel is located on a busy street in the center of vibrant Seminyak. There are lots of restaurants, bars, and shops within blocks, and the beach can be accessed through the W Retreat & Spa Bali, a five-minute walk from the hotel. Those who'd rather not walk can request car service to local shops and restaurants, or to the partner beach club, Mozaic Beachclub, located a 10-minute drive away. Famous Pura Petitenget temple can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes, and Bali TrickArt 3D Gallery is just a 10-minute drive away. The wild nightlife of Kuta is a 20- to 25-minute drive from the hotel. Echo Beach, known for its powerful waves, is 30 minutes by car, and Ngurah Rai International Airport can be reached in about half an hour. Room rates include free airport transfers.

The Kayana is an all-villa hotel with only 24 units, all housed in traditional Balinese pavilions with thatched roofs, stylish decor that includes abundant hardwood accents, and spacious patios with private pools and lounges. Rooms are large, sleek, and get plenty of natural light, with floor-to-ceiling windows on either side, handsome vaulted ceilings lined with hardwood, and an open floor plan that includes a small seating area with a lounge chair. A wooden cabinet contains a 42-inch flat-screen TV, DVD player, minibar stocked with sodas and wine, an electric kettle, and free bottled water. Other standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, safes, air-conditioning, loaner movies, iPods pre-loaded with several playlists, and sound systems. 

Each Villa has an outdoor pavilion with living and dining space, ceiling fan, and mosquito nets to keep bugs at bay. Bathrooms in all villas are spacious and sharp, with deep soaking tubs, large windows, round sinks over wooden counters, and separate showers with rainfall showerheads. Robes and indoor-outdoor slippers are provided as are Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries. 

Twelve of the 24 units are Deluxe Villas, each of which has a small plunge pool, two loungers, an umbrella, and a small cabana with a dining table for two. One-Bedroom Pool Villas are similar to Deluxe units, but have larger, seven-meter-long pools running the length of the pavilions. Families and groups can book the hotel’s only Two-Bedroom Villa, which has two bedrooms separated by a large outdoor lounge complete with day beds and a dining area for six. Though the immediate area around the hotel is busy throughout the day, all villas stay quiet.

The Dauh is the hotel’s only restaurant, serving tasty Balinese and international cuisine in a long wooden pavilion overlooking the pool. Free breakfast is served here every morning, but guests can also request in-villa breakfast at no extra charge. The pavilion adjacent to the restaurant houses a small lounge with wicker furniture and views over the lush grounds. With a skinny wooden deck, serene views of palm trees and flowers, and just a handful of loungers and umbrellas, the infinity pool is a quiet spot for a lazy day in the sun. Luxurious Ayur Spa offers a wide array of treatments, including Balinese, hot stone, and herbal massages, facials, body wraps and scrubs, mani-pedis, and reflexology. In-villa massages are also available. The fitness center offers a handful of cardio and weight machines in an airy, sunny space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a serene garden with a fountain. 

The Kayana offers free shuttle service to a partner beach club complete with a restaurant located a short drive away. The hotel also offers full wedding services and a few great freebies including Wi-Fi, airport transfers, shuttle services to local stores and restaurants, and afternoon tea service with cake and Balinese snacks.
