Bottom Line

One of the newer properties in the Legian Beach area, the Swiss-Belinn Legian is a 123-room value hotel with contemporary appeal. Rooms are basic but clean and equipped with modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning, but they lack drawers for storing clothing. A rooftop pool, small fitness center, and meeting rooms are available for guests' use and there's an on-site bar/restaurant in the center atrium that serves a varied Indonesian and international breakfast buffet. However, there's no spa and most rooms lack balconies.

Scene

This contemporary urban hotel is popular with young travelers, mainly from Japan and Australia.

The Swiss-Belinn Legian gets a lot of younger clients, including plenty of Australian and Japanese tourists. The facade of the five-story hotel looks futuristic, with its angular wood panels and red accents adorned with draped tropical foliage. The lobby is small but welcoming and has turquoise couches and gray banquettes. Elevators and stairs lead up to rooms and onto the rooftop. Note that the property is situated on a busy street and thus can get some traffic noise.

Location

Close to area attractions and the beach

The hotel is located in the heart of Legian on a bustling city street, and the area directly surrounding the property is busy. There's a sundries shop right next door and there are numerous ATMs nearby, as well as a laundry service store and plenty of shops and restaurants choices. Double Six Beach is a a five-minute stroll away via a shortcut, and Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Minimalistic, but clean rooms with modern amenities

Clean and functional, the rooms at the Swiss-Belinn Legian have simple, minimalistic decor. Neutral colors are the norm and furnishings are limited to a couple of pieces of wall art in each and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs. Floors are covered with generic gray tiling and there are no dressers with drawers (just shelving units with hanging space). However, there are small desks as well as daybed/window seats giving guests places to sit other than the platform-style beds. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, minibars, safes, and electric kettles with coffee/tea fixings and bottled water included. Bathrooms are on the small side, with contemporary fixtures, toiletries, and slippers. Most have walk-in showers, though those in the Junior Suites come with large tubs.

Only five of the rooms have balconies; guests in non-balcony rooms should note that the windows do not open. Ground-floor rooms open straight out on to the restaurant and can be noisy; those wanting quiet should request a room on a higher floor.

Features

Rooftop infinity pool and bar, in-room massages, event spaces, restaurant/lounge, and movie night

The small but lovely rooftop infinity pool has terrific views of the Legian area (with even a bit of seascape in the distance). There are also plenty of colorful lounge chairs and red umbrellas available for guest use, as well as extra towels. The poolside bar Chadis serves up libations and snacks until late, and there are occasional poolside barbecues. The hotel's on-site gym has a few different cardio machines along with free weights. Though the hotel lacks a spa, in-room massages can be arranged through the hotel.

There are also two small meeting rooms with audiovisual equipment available; the rooms can be combined to also make a larger banquet space, called Pesamuan, and catering can be arranged. Movies are screened every Wednesday night, and guests in attendance are provided with free popcorn.

The on-site BaReLo (a mash-up name for the hotel's bar-meets-restaurant-meets-lounge) is located on the lobby level. The Indonesian and international buffet breakfast -- included in some room rates  -- has a nice variety of foods and different options are rotated in and out of the spread every day. Lunch and dinner are served a la carte; 24-hour room service is also available.
