Bottom Line
Swiss-Belhotel Rainforest is a business oriented mid-range hotel located along the bustling Sunset Road Highway. The 161 rooms have minimalist interiors with bright contemporary stylings. All rooms come equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges. Although the hotel is fairly compact it does have a full set of facilities, including a stylish all-day restaurant, a chic lobby lounge, a rooftop swimming pool and poolside bar, a fitness center, three meeting rooms, and a gift shop. Parking and Wi-Fi are free. The hotel's defining feature is the huge circular koi pond at the lobby, with flowering frangipani trees set in the pond and green vines spilling down from the rooftop, creating a pleasing aesthetic. As an alternative, the Ramada Bali Sunset Road Kuta is slightly newer and has a larger pool and two restaurants.

A business hotel with a stylish restaurant, huge koi pond entranceway, and quiet rooftop pool
The huge central circular koi pond has tall frangipani trees set within the water and long hanging vines coming down from the roof hotel, to create an elegant effect. Besides the koi pond installation there is limited greenery or open space featured in the hotel, since it's a fairly compact city building. The lobby is little more than a place to check in and consists of just a couple of sofas and a reception desk. There is a picturesque rooftop pool lined with a wood deck and some greenery, plus a small poolside bar and lounge with a clean white interior and comfy plush white couches. The pool tends to stay fairly quiet and serene throughout the day. Oak Restaurant is a stylish and spacious two-story dining venue with an industrial, chic, and modern Asian decor. There is plenty of seating both indoors and on the deck overlooking the koi pond. The interior heavily features hardwoods, wrought iron, and polished concrete. There's also a small urban-style lobby lounge and bar with comfy leather sofa seating and a long wooden bar that serves cocktails. Note that the lobby, lounge, and restaurant aren't air-conditioned and can get quite hot at times.
Location
Along the bustling Sunset Road highway, a 20- to 30-minute drive from the airport, Kuta, and Seminyak
The hotel is positioned along the bustling Sunset Road highway and is fairly centered between the Ngurah Rai Airport, Kuta, Seminyak, and Petitenget -- with drives to each area taking about 20 to 30 minutes. Within the immediate location of the hotel there are limited shopping and dining options and walking along the busy highway is a bit difficult with all the traffic and non-existent or poorly maintained sidewalks. For those who don't mind braving the traffic, Sushi Tei is a popular restaurant just next door to the hotel. Less than a 10-minute walk in the opposite direction is Laota Restaurant, an excellent Chinese restaurant that specializes in Peking duck and seafood. Kuta Central Parkir and Dewi Sri Food Center, an outdoor food court with a large range of Indonesian restaurant stalls is around a 10- to 15-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel does provide a free twice-daily shuttle service to Discovery Shopping Mall in Kuta (about 10 minutes) and surrounding areas.
Rooms
Bright and contemporary spacious rooms that are well equipped with modern amenities
Swiss-Belhotel Rainforest has 161 rooms in total, all of which feature identical stylings but vary on space and features. Rooms have contemporary decor, clean white walls, dark-stained wood composite furniture, and a decent amount of space to stretch out. Dark green accent walls, patterned batik light green bed runners, and green upholstered sofa chairs. Higher category rooms also include small floral paintings hung above the bed or in the living room area. Dark brown curtains, brown bedside lamps, and dark-colored furniture also add a nice contrast. Large glass windows add light and airflow to the rooms, though most don't have balconies or are equipped with tiny balconies that lack seating.
Both the Junior Suites and Executive Suites include a living room area with a large sofa set and coffee tables. The Junior Suite features an open-plan floor space that connects the living room and bedroom. In the Executive Suite, the living room and bedroom are divided, making it more suitable for families that want privacy and need the extra space for kids. All rooms are well equipped with air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes (in most rooms), and bottled water.
The bathrooms have clean, bright interiors with long black vanities with sunken porcelain sinks, large mirrors, and either shower/tub combos or just a standalone shower cubicle. Hairdryers, toiletries, and bathrobes are provided. The rooms we inspected during our tour of the hotel were overall are fairly well maintained but did show some general wear and tear.
Features
Three meeting rooms, a stylish restaurant, rooftop pool, and fitness center
The hotel is geared towards business guests, but is also frequented by Asian tour groups. The three meeting rooms offer plenty of space and flexibility as they can be converted into a large function hall that holds up to 500 people. There's a desktop computer in the lobby that guests can use and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
The rooftop swimming pool has a lovely setting, gets great sun, and is adjoined by a small lounge and bar where guests can order food and drinks from the comfort of their lounge chairs. Oak Restaurant is a stylish wood decorated restaurant featuring Asian contemporary decor. The restaurant serves three meals a day, and has a menu that highlights Asian, Indonesian, and Balinese cuisines, as well as a good selection of Western favorites like pasta dishes, salads, pizzas, and burgers. Included in all room rates is a decent buffet breakfast spread with a selection of Indonesian and Western fare, as well as an egg station, pastries, and a coffee menu.
The fitness center is fairly cramped and the space includes two treadmills, an elliptical machine, a multi-weight machine, and some free weights. There's also a small gift shop adjoining the lobby that sells clothing from local designers as well as some snacks, body products, alcohol, and gelato. Guests can use the underground parking lot free of charge but space is limited.
