Bottom Line

The 25-room Suarti Boutique Village is an upper-middle-range option located on lush tropical grounds about a 10-minute drive outside of central Ubud. The hotel provides a free shuttle into town three times a day, or guests can walk there in about 30 minutes. Rooms are housed in individual wooden cottages, all with terraces, and some have lovely private pools and gardens. There's also a communal pool, but it only has three lounge chairs. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, though it sits next to a loud and busy road. Massage services are available and bikes and cars can be rented on-site, while activities like cooking classes are offered in an outdoor pavilion. A similar alternative is the Tejaprana Resort & Spa, though it adds a spa and larger pool with submerged lounge chairs.

Scene

Individual cottages nestled on lush tropical grounds, especially popular with couples

Removed from the city center, this place is situated on lush tropical grounds next to rice fields. Unfortunately, it's also next to a busy road, but the overall ambience is mostly relaxing. Interiors, including the lobby, have a rustic feel to them. Several benches are available across from the reception desk, where guests can hang out, and the restaurant and bar are adjacent. Unfortunately, traffic noise can be the worst in the restaurant, making it a less-than-tranquil spot to hang out. Stone walkways wind through the property and lead to private villas, where the overall vibe here is laid-back and hustle-free. This place is especially popular with couples, who like the privacy of the villas, but families and groups also make their way here.

Location

Located on busy road, about a 10-minute drive south of Ubud

This hotel is situated on a busy street in Pengosekan about a 10-minute drive from the center of Ubud. The hotel provides free shuttle service to town, and guests can walk there in about 30 minutes, although there are no sidewalks and the streets in these parts are busy. The road to the hotel is easy to access, but traffic can be bad because the T-junction at the end doesn't have a traffic light, which results in traffic jams at times. Guests can walk to the Sacred Monkey Forest in about 20 minutes as well, or drive there in 10 minutes. The Agung Rai Museum of Art is about an eight-minute walk from the hotel. Plan on an hour to reach Ngurah Rai International Airport by car, though traffic can be unpredictable.

Rooms

Individual rustic cottages with terraces, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs -- some feature private pools and gardens

Rooms here are housed in Balinese-style wooden cottages surrounded by tropical greenery. Deluxe Suites and One-Bedroom Villas are designed for two people, and the Two-Bedroom Villas can accommodate four. The cottages are lovely, with wooden walls, thatched ceilings, tiled floors, wooden furniture, and neutral color schemes. Amenities in all include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, kettles for tea and coffee, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Modern bathrooms are attractively rustic, with open walk-in showers featuring rainfall showers, separate tubs, toiletries in large eco-friendly containers, and hairdryers. Robes and slippers are provided. All rooms have terraces, and villas feature their own beautiful private pools surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Goddess fountains pour water into the pools, providing soothing sounds. Cushioned day beds and chairs on the deck are ideal spots for relaxing poolside. Two-bedroom villas add outdoor wet bars plus dining tables and chairs. Light sleepers should be sure to request cottages farthest from the road.

Features

Restaurant and bar, small outdoor pool, massage services, cooking classes, and free Wi-Fi

Features here are simple, in keeping with the hotel's humble style. The Kassava restaurant and bar serves Western and Asian fare for all meals. The open-air space is casual and cozy, with tile flooring and wooden tables and chairs. Unfortunately, though, it is next to the busy road. A breakfast buffet of fruits, breads, and rice is served daily, and eggs can be cooked to order. Room service is available. Several of the villas have their own private pools, but there's also a small communal pool. It's a lovely space surrounded by lots of tropical plants, though there are only three poolside loungers. Sun lovers may be out of luck for much of the day as there is more shade than sun, but the setting is peaceful and relaxing. A pavilion is used for cooking classes, and massage services are available (though there is no proper spa). The free shuttle takes guests into town three times a day, though some guests find that it starts too late in the day. Additionally, the shuttle is only one way. Bikes and cars can be rented on-site. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
