Bottom Line

The Park Regis Kuta Bali is a 175-room hotel located along a congested and noisy road on the outskirts of Kuta. It's a 15-minute walk or drive to the beach. Facilities at this three-and-a-half-pearl property include a pool, restaurant and bar, small cafe, spa, fitness center, and meeting rooms. Rooms are contemporary and well maintained, and feature air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and many include efficiency kitchenettes. Deluxe Pool Suites include plunge pools and living rooms, and may be worth the splurge. The main downsides of the Park Regis Kuta are occasionally tired and worn interiors and the poor location, which is out of the way for Kuta's main sights. As a better-located alternative, Dekuta Hotel is similarly priced and features a larger pool, while also being closer to the beach.

Scene

Contemporary hotel with small Southeast Asian touches, though some common areas are worn

Scene Park Regis

On the surface, the Park Regis Kuta has an attractive, modern style that's a pleasant upgrade from some of the more rundown properties closer to Kuta's party areas. However, upon closer inspection, this hotel's high turnover has translated into the same kind of wear that you're likely to spot at the busy properties found throughout the region. The lobby has a Balinese theme and features intricately carved sandstone reliefs, a large mural, black-and-white terrazzo floors, and comfy seats. That same nominally Southeast Asian style carries through most public areas to varying effect. Padi Padi Restaurant looks a little tired and the decor and color scheme -- which consist of brown chairs and lime green colored curtains -- isn't our favorite look. The open-air poolside bar has a bit more atmosphere, featuring shabby-chic recycled boat wood tables and comfy rattan chairs. Given the hotel's distance from the wilder parts of Kuta and the beach, the relative wealth of on-site facilities does come in handy. Expect to see mostly couples here.

Location

Located on the outskirts of Kuta, a 15-minute drive or walk to Kuta Beach

Unfortunately, this hotel's location might be its biggest con. It's located on a busy road on the outskirts of Kuta, with few dining and shopping options nearby. Sidewalks in the area aren't in great condition, so walking from the hotel into Kuta isn't very pleasant and it's easier to take a cab from the hotel. It's a 15-minute drive, though the ambitious can make the walk in about the same amount of time. Next door to the hotel there is a Chinese restaurant, a camera store, a supermarket, and a couple of convenience stores. Jalan Legian, which is lined with bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and shops, is an eight-minute drive from the hotel. Waterbom Park and Discovery Shopping Mall are about 10 minutes from the hotel by taxi, and the airport is a 15-minute drive away.

Rooms

Affordable room options as well as premium suites featuring plunge pools, bathtubs, and living rooms

Rooms Park Regis

Rooms at the Park Regis Kuta are contemporary, and feel bright and airy owing to the large glass doors that let in plenty of natural light. Interiors feature marble floors, white walls, tan wallpaper, plush upholstered white couches, and comfy beds. Other furniture includes desks and wardrobes featuring dark wood-veneer finishes. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, hairdryers, and free Wi-Fi. Efficiency kitchenettes come with higher-category units and contain microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffee- and tea-making facilities.

There are five different room categories on offer, all with similar decor, but varying in size, layout, and features. The Regis Rooms are the most affordable option. They lack the pools found in premium suites, but have 333 square feet of space (31 square meters). Deluxe Pool Suites range from 647 to 968 square feet (60 to 90 square meters) and feature living rooms, private plunge pools, and bathtubs. Bathrooms are simple and uncluttered in all categories, with off-white tiling, glass-enclosed showers, and creamy white marble-tiled vanities. Rooms are well maintained, but do show some wear and tear throughout.

Features

Facilities include a restaurant, poolside bar, cafe, fitness center, spa, and pool

Features Park Regis

The facilities at the Park Regis Kuta are fairly complete for a hotel in this price range and include a restaurant, cafe, bar, spa, fitness center, pool, and meeting rooms. The hotel pool is a small and narrow, and set in the center of the property. It's surrounded by a wooden deck with only a few lounge chairs. The pool is poorly maintained and shows chipped and discolored tiles, and the wooden pool deck is also quite worn.

A daily buffet breakfast, along with lunch and dinner, are served at Padi Padi restaurant, which overlooks the busy road out front. The restaurant offers a mix of Asian and Western dishes and also hosts a weekly barbecue night. The stylish Deck Bar overlooks the pool and serves daily happy hour specials on beer and cocktails. Bamboo Cafe is on the first floor, adjoining the lobby, and serves coffee, snacks, and desert.

The spa is clean and modern, and features private treatment rooms, offering a range of beauty and massage treatments. A daily free shuttle service is available to a nearby shopping mall and to Kuta Beach. Parking at the hotel is limited and it can be difficult to find street parking, as the road along the hotel is quite congested. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the hotel.
