Bottom Line

For an all-villa property with a decidedly more humble bent, Parigata Villas is a solid option that's just up the road from the beach. This mid-range property is simple and straightforward, with classic Balinese style that can look a bit faded in spots. Each of the 18 villas is privately walled and includes its own pool and outdoor space, but the one-bedroom configurations mean that they're not suited for families. For many guests here, that's a perk. Otherwise, features are limited, as they are at most villa properties in Sanur. There is a lovely communal pool for those who want to socialize, and a simple restaurant serving food all day. Looking for villas with more premium appeal? Check out Mahagiri Villas, though that property is farther from the beach.

Scene

Simple villa-only property for travelers seeking easy beach access and privacy

The number of villa-only properties in Sanur isn't high, and that's especially true when you consider those that are close to the beach. In fact, the main advantage of Parigata Villas is its proximity to the shore, which is just down the road. The hotel itself is a simple affair, and with its individual one-bedroom villas, it has a private and quiet vibe. During our 2017 visit, many guests were spotted heading in and out of their villas, and common areas are limited to the lovely pool and simple restaurant. Decor is traditionally Balinese and nothing to write home about, though the clean and well-kept grounds do make this an attractive option for the area. Expect to see mostly mature couples here, mostly because the one-room villa layouts aren't exactly family friendly.

Location

A two-minute walk from the beach, near plenty of restaurants and bars in southern Sanur

This hotel's location is easily its strongest asset. That's because Sanur's beach and beachfront promenade are only a two-minute walk down the road. There are lots of casual beachfront restaurants all along the promenade. In the other direction is Jalan Danau Tamblingan, which is lined with touristy bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops. You'll find essentially anything you need within a five- to 10-minute walk. The northern section of Sanur's development is best accessed by taxi, and is only a five-minute drive away. Alternatively, the hotel has a free shuttle that runs to its other property in that part of town. It's a 10-minute drive or less to the Sindhu Night Market for travelers wanting to sample authentic (and cheap) Indonesian fare. Budget 20 to 30 minutes to reach the airport by taxi, and around 40 minutes to Kuta, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Simple one-bedroom villas with air-conditioning, private pools, and outdoor living areas

The villas here, despite being divided into three different categories, all have a similar look that draws on traditional Balinese motifs. The light wood and wicker furniture is looking a little tired in some of the units -- particularly the Standard Suite Villas -- but they're impeccably clean overall. Expect details like mosquito nets, Balinese art, and high thatched ceilings, plus cream and white accents. Outdoor living areas include wicker sofas and/or chairs, though in lower-category units these are essentially just furnished terraces. Flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges are included in bedrooms, and all villas have free Wi-Fi. There are no kitchens or kitchenettes. The private pools with each villa are an undeniable highlight. Poolside lounge chairs sit next to the water, and flowering shrubs line the high walls that separate every unit. Indoor bathrooms are spacious and include shower/tub combos, some of which come with rainfall showerheads. Towels and toiletries are provided.

Features

Lovely communal pool and a simple restaurant, plus free shuttle to the beach club

There aren't too many features here, as most guests are independent travelers, but there's enough on-site to foster a low-key social scene for anyone interested. The hotel's communal pool is lovely -- which is a feat considering each villa also has its own pool. It's a freeform stunner with little lagoon-like areas and is surrounded by landscaping and lounge chairs. There's a simple restaurant adjacent, serving Indonesian and international fare for all meals. A breakfast buffet is offered, but not included in standard rates. A free shuttle runs to the hotel's other property, and to the beach club (which is closer to the sister hotel). Wi-Fi is free throughout.
