Bottom Line

Situated on the Bukit Peninsula, a short walk from Padang Padang Beach, the Lullaby Bungalows is a simple mid-range property with a nice dash of rustic charm. The 10 individual, air-conditioned bungalows have thatched roofs and plenty of space and privacy, not to mention lovely outdoor bathrooms (which, admittedly, won't be for everyone). An a la carte breakfast is free, and the hotel also serves lunch and dinner. The outdoor pool area is a great spot for relaxing, and the beach is only 10 minutes away on foot. While the hotel sees all kinds of travelers, the vibe is geared more toward couples and friends than those with kids; families may prefer the Flower Bud Bungalows Balangan, which offers family rooms and has two pools.

Scene

Simple property in quiet, peaceful setting that appeals mostly to couples

This is a simple little property with 10 separate thatched-roof bungalows in a lush garden setting. There's plenty of rustic charm throughout the hotel, and stone pathways wind through the property, leading to the bungalows and the pool area. There's not much in the way of public spaces here except the restaurant and pool area, though a small raised, covered terrace lined with mats and throw pillows sits in the middle of the garden for those who need additional space to relax. The ambiance is peaceful, quiet, and private, with just the sounds of nature. This hotel mostly appeals to young couples (after all, there's something romantic about these kinds of rustic bungalows), but some small families also stay here as well.

Location

Located on Bukit peninsula near Padang Padang Beach

The property is situated on the Bukit Peninsula in the village of Pecatu in Padang Padang. It's a 10-minute walk to Padang Padang Beach, which is popular for surfing. There are a few local residences, some empty plots of land, and lots of green trees surrounding the property. A few restaurants and cafes are within a five-minute walks, but ultimately this isn't the area to stay in if you're looking for a party scene. Additionally, to see any other beaches or sights, a scooter or car will be necessary (available through the hotel). Dreamland Beach is about 15 minutes away by road, and Uluwatu Temple can be reached in 20 minutes by car. Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 45 minutes northeast of the hotel in buzzing Kuta.

Rooms

Spacious bungalows with locally made furniture and outdoor bathrooms

Lullaby offers 10 bungalows that can sleep up to three people. The look varies a bit from one bungalow to the other, but overall the style is rustic and charming. Each includes locally made furniture and traditional decorative pieces such as statues and pottery. The peaked ceilings soar overhead -- a truly impressive sight -- and are constructed with alang alang grass and bamboo. Eclectic details, like mismatched table lamps, add a bit of personality and the terra-cotta tile floors are impeccably clean. Mosquito netting hangs over the beds and linens include elephant-print throw pillows and fluffy bedspreads. In the room that we visited, fabrics came in a combination of dark and neutral tones that elevate the style here beyond typical bungalow/hut offerings. All rooms come with furnished terraces, air-conditioning, work desks, and outdoor bathrooms with hot water and showers. The rooms do not have Wi-Fi. The toilets are outside as well, set in a garden-like stone terrace, though this arrangement likely won't suit everyone.

Features

On-site restaurant, lovely pool and hot tub, lounge seating

The Lullaby doesn't offer many features, although there is an open-air restaurant serving all three meals, including a free breakfast. Options are chosen from an a la carte menu with a decent number of choices (including eggs), and the fresh fruit juices are particularly popular. The small outdoor pool and hot tub are surrounded by a stone deck and overlooked by lush trees and flowers. Lounge seating is available under palapas and in lounge chairs under the nearby trees and massages, car and scooter rentals, bike trips, and airport transfers can be arranged on request. Wi-Fi is free in the restaurant and pool area, but the signal doesn't reach all the rooms.
