Bottom Line

Kokonut Suites is a contemporary upscale hotel with a tranquil tropical garden setting located in the trendy Petitenget area. There are tons of great dining, shopping, and nightlife options within walking distance, but the beach is a 10-minute drive away. Hotel facilities include a large freeform pool surrounded by tropical greenery, a spa, a kids' club, and a small fitness center. The hip Livingstone Cafe (and curated shop) is a popular breakfast spot that serves excellent coffee and baked goods. The 33 spacious suites are reasonably priced and have chic modern interiors. Both One- and Two-Bedrooms Suites are available and all feature balconies, comfy living rooms, and fully equipped kitchens. For an alternative hotel in downtown Seminyak, the chic U Paasha Seminyak is located in the heart of Eat Street, though rooms are a bit pricier.

Scene

A tranquil boutique hotel featuring a happening cafe and a pool in a tropical garden setting

The vibe at Kokonut Suites is tranquil and laid-back, though also stylish and contemporary. The property is built around a lush tropical garden area; the freeform pool is set within a tropical garden, and is the focal point of the property. The pool is surrounded by a large deck lined with plenty of seating, including comfy couches and lounge chairs. It's worth noting that the pool is a hub of activity throughout the day and can get loud at times, especially as many families with young children come through the hotel. Meals are served in the street-side Livingstone Restaurant, which has an upbeat vibe and chic urban decor. The huge two-story restaurant features open-air seating as well as indoor air-conditioned sections. The buzzing restaurant is one of Petitenget's breakfast and coffee hotspots and is popular with both in-house and outside guests. The hotel is popular with a younger crowd and features facilities that are well suited for families, couples, and single travelers. Guests should note that the hotel has three floors and there are no elevator facilities, so families with small children or those who have difficulties climbing stairs will want to request a ground floor room.

Location

In trendy Petitenget, near excellent fine dining restaurants, designer shops, and bars

The hotel is located along bustling Petitenget Street, one of the area's trendiest and most happening neighborhoods with a great variety of excellent dining, shopping, and nightlife spots. Two of the area's premier fine dining restaurants, Metis and Sardine, are located right next door. The black-sand Petitenget Beach is less than 10 minutes away by car and although it isn't great for swimming due to the heavy rip tides, it tends to be quieter than nearby Seminyak beach and is ok for surfing, walking, or just lounging. Popular oceanfront restaurants and beach clubs along Petitenget Beach include The W Resort Bali, Potato Head beach club, and La Lucciola Restaurant. The posh KU DE TA restaurant/club and Seminyak's Eat Street (or Laksmana Street) are around a 15-minute drive. Both Kuta Beach and the airport take 35 minutes to reach from the hotel, though driving times can take significantly longer during peak traffic.

Rooms

Spacious contemporary suites feature living rooms with comfy couches, fully equipped kitchens, and balconies

Suites feature a sharp contemporary look, lots of space, and balcony areas with outdoor seating. Interiors have light colored walls and floor tiles, modern furnishings, and traditional Indonesian artwork and handicrafts on display. The One-Bedroom Suites have a floor plan spanning 645 square feet (60 square meters) and the Two-Bedrooms Suites are twice the size. Suites feature living rooms with comfy upholstered couches and flat-screen TVs, plus fully equipped kitchens outfitted with stovetop burners, microwaves, full-sized refrigerators, kettles, and dining tables. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, bottled water, safes, work tables and chairs, and plenty of wardrobe space. Suites facing the pool offer a nice view, though tend to be noisy when the pool is in use. Rooms at the back of the hotel overlook a tropical garden and are more quiet and secluded.

Bathrooms are simple, clean, and modern -- though a little small. They feature a shower/tub combo and a standalone porcelain sink. There's a small shelf behind the sink for toiletries and a large mirror, which help make the bathrooms feel larger. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided. Some rooms and bathrooms show light wear and tear.

Features

A garden pool, stylish urban cafe and shop, spa facilities with private treatment rooms, kids' club, and a gym

The hotel has a decent selection of facilities, especially for a small boutique hotel. The central freeform pool is surrounded by tropical gardens, and is the hotel's most attractive facility. The pool deck is lined with tall palm trees and has plenty of lounge chairs and couches laid-out for guests. Breakfast is served at the street-side, Livingstone Cafe and Bakery. The two-story restaurant partner provides both breakfast and room service. The cafe features chic urban decor and serves mainly Western cuisine, plus baked goods. It gets busy during breakfast hours and is popular with both in-house and outside guests. Breakfast is not included in most room packages and is an additional fee. The second story of the cafe is the Buro Concept Store and Coffee Shop which serves artisanal coffee and features a small designer boutique with curated items like housewares and sunglasses.

There's a spa featuring elegant private treatment rooms, all of which contain deep soaking tubs and rainfall showers. An array of massage and beauty treatments are offered. The property also features a fitness center, though the equipment is limited and fairly aged. The room holds a treadmill, exercise bike, weight machine, and some free weights. Families can use the bright indoor kids' club. Free shuttle service is available to nearby areas and both parking and Wi-Fi are free.
