KajaNe Yangloni

KajaNe Yangloni is set among manicured tropical gardens, with sprawling grass lawns, rice fields, and flowing koi ponds in seemingly every direction. This setting alone manages to pull in loyal guests in spades, offering a convincingly tranquil alternative to the KajaNe property in central Ubud. There are numerous quiet nooks hidden amid the gardens and rice fields to unwind with a good book or just take in the scenery. The vibe is laid back and the on-site facilities offer something for both families and couples, including free daily cultural activities for adults and children. Interiors throughout are contemporary, but the architecture, decor, and grounds are steeped in Balinese design, architecture, and landscaping. This is one of the only properties in the Mas area that offers such extensive facilities. Guests that who don't mind the commute into Ubud -- or who just want to relax in a quiet resort-like setting -- will find that Kajane Yangloni offers better value for money than many of the similarly priced hotels in downtown Ubud. 

The hotel is located on the outskirts of Ubud in Mas village, a 15- to 20-minute drive from the downtown Ubud -- where you'll find the palace, yoga schools, theaters, and the Sacred Monkey Forest. Situated off the main road and down a long driveway, the hotel feels far removed from traffic and stays quiet. The immediate area doesn't offer all that much for tourists beyond a few small warungs, like Babi Guling Ibu Oka and Warung Teges, which have been serving up authentic Balinese fare for decades. They're within a five-minute walk of the hotel. Mas is most well known for its traditional local artisans who handcraft wooden furniture and statuary. Many stores sell their wares along the streets outside of the hotel, though mostly for those looking to export from Bali. For airport transfers, the hotel's location makes it more convenient than a hotel in downtown Ubud as you'll avoid some of Ubud's hectic traffic, especially during peak hours. The airport takes around 80 minutes to reach from the hotel.

This 48-room hotel offers four distinct room categories, ranging from ultra private one-bedroom pool villas constructed from traditional Javanese wood bungalows to more affordably priced suites. All are fresh and well maintained, sporting bright, contemporary interiors. Standard features include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with DVD players and sound systems, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes, mineral water, nightly turndown service, bathrobes, and slippers. Also, almost all rooms have rice field or garden views, plus balconies with outdoor seating.

Both the Loji Villas and Uma Mansions feature similar interiors, but the Loji Villas are more spacious. Large sliding doors open up the living spaces into balcony areas, creating roomy open-plan spaces. Interiors are clean and modern, with a combination of contemporary and traditional touches, offering an aesthetically pleasing and uncluttered space. Bathrooms in both categories are modern and fresh, including wooden vanities with stone sinks and large mirrors, plus deep freestanding stone bathtubs. However, only Loji Villas have separate glass showers, whereas Uma Mansions feature shower/tub combos. These two room categories are situated closest to the lobby and other facilities.

The Toya Antik and Bale Antik Villas overlook the rice fields and are a bit of a trek from the main facilities. Both categories are housed in traditional wooden Javanese gladak houses, which have intricately carved relief features throughout and solid teak walls and floors. The rich wooden features and persona of the antique houses have been left intact, but they've been modified with modern amenities. Each is outfitted with carved solid wood furniture, including comfortable beds covered by mosquito nets, wooden sofa benches, and wardrobes. Toya Antik Villas are incredibly private, with enclosed garden spaces and private plunge pools. Both Toya Antik and Bale Antik Villas feature spacious bathrooms decked in natural stonework including stone washbasins, oversized stone bathtubs, and separate rainfall showers.

Numerous facilities add to the value here, especially when compared to many downtown Ubud hotels, which generally are constrained by space. The outdoor infinity pool is one of the most popular features, situated among tropical gardens and overlooking the rice fields. The vibe around the pool is tranquil and serene, and there are plenty of pool chairs laid out on the wooden pool deck. 

The other stand-out facility is the Bali Homemade Spa, which is fresh and contemporary. There are two couples massage rooms, both equipped with huge circular soaking tubs for flower baths. Numerous massage and beauty treatments are offered, as well as hair treatments, manicures, and pedicures. Free yoga classes are held twice a week in the spacious yoga studio overlooking the garden. For something a bit more high-impact, a fitness center has elliptical machine, a treadmill, a resistance machine, and some free weights. It's small, but sufficient for a basic workout.

Three meals a day are served in the restaurant, which offers a menu of Western and Indonesian favorites. Many previous guests praise the Indonesian and Balinese dishes on offer. Breakfast is included in most room rates and is served buffet style, with a selection of Indonesian and Western dishes, as well as cereals, baked goods, and an egg station. Afternoon tea and snacks are also available.

Free daily activities and scheduled weekly programming includes guided morning rice field treks, Hindu-offering classes, and Balinese gamelan and dance lessons. Kids' activities like kite-making and kite-flying lessons -- as well as cooking classes -- are also available. The meeting room is clean and well equipped, and can hold around 50 people. A daily round-trip shuttle is offered into downtown Ubud. On-site parking is available and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
