The three-pearl Hotel Vila Lumbung is a small family-friendly resort complex that offers great value. Although it's located in the middle the busy Petitenget strip, it's on large grounds with expansive tropical gardens and a big outdoor pool, so once inside it feels like a tranquil retreat. The hotel offers a total of 70 Rooms and Bungalows, both of which offer stylish decor with Balinese touches. On-site facilities are great too, with an open-air restaurant and a full-service spa. While it's not on the beach, it's a 10-minute walk to the shore and the hotel also offers a free shuttle.
Scene
Traditional mid-range resort property with a relaxed feel and family-friendly atmosphere
The Vila Lumbung is one of the older hotels in the area and has the feel of a traditional Balinese property -- Lumbung is a type of local architecture that's present throughout the property. The open-air reception has a relaxed and rustic vibe, with fresh flowers, a dark-wood floor, a beamed ceiling, and carved wood furnishings. Guests are greeted with chilled towels and welcome drinks. Although it's a family-focused hotel, the property also attracts couples and some honeymooners, although it doesn't offer the same level of luxury or romance as many other options in the areas. That said, the spacious grounds are filled with trees and tropical plants, and there are plenty of private spots for those seeking some alone time.
Location
A short walk to the area’s top attractions
Located in the middle of the busy Petitenget strip, the hotel is in an ideal spot for seeing the sights of Seminyak as all the top attractions are within walking distance. The Potato Head Beach Club and Petitenget Beach are a 10-minute walk away, and the Mozaic Beach Club is within 20 minutes on foot. There are countless great restaurants and bars within five minutes of the hotel, and the famous KU DE TA restaurant and lounge is a 20-minute walk or five-minute taxi ride. For shopping, Seminyak Square is a five-minute drive away, while the bustling towns of Kuta and Legian take 15 minutes by car. The Ngurah Rai International Airport is a half hour away.
Rooms
Charming, traditional rooms and bungalows but with modern furnishings and bathrooms
Lodging at the Vila Lumbung is split across 36 spacious Superior Rooms and 34 Deluxe Bungalows, all of which are air-conditioned. All 70 units have been recently refurbished with simple but stylish decor, including plain-white bed linens and solid teak furniture. All come with free bottled water, fridges, safes, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and DVD players. Room service is available during limited hours.
Superior Rooms are located in a three-story building that overlooks the gardens and pool. Bungalows are built in the Lumbung style with traditional Balinese wooden roofs and balconies. For large families or groups, there are also two three-bedroom units with large living/dining areas and walk-in wardrobes. Bathrooms in all units are spacious and modern, and those in the Bungalows have separate walk-in showers and outdoor bath tubs.
Features
Stunning grounds with extensive pool, plus meeting facilities, spa, and an excellent restaurant
The hotel’s most impressive feature is its large grounds, featuring peaceful and well-maintained tropical gardens with an attractive pool area at their center. The two-level pool features a waterfall, a cave, an island, multiple bridges, a bubble pool, connecting lotus ponds, a separate children’s pool, and a swim-up bar. Chess and backgammon can be played around the pool and there are palm trees for shade. Kids can play at the outdoor playground.
The hotel’s spa offers a good range of services including massages, facials, body treatments, and aromatherapy. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves international cuisine in a stunning open-air space. A children's menu is available and they also have satay nights, barbecues, and moonlight dinners highlighting local dishes, served under the full moon. There’s also a small bar which serves a wide range of drinks, including a variety of cocktails. Guests can also make use of a free beach shuttle, free parking nearby, a small fitness center, and self-serve laundry room. Wi-Fi is fast and free throughout the property, and there’s a meeting room for up to 75 people.
