Scene
Modern property with a rustic ambience set in a verdant garden and overlooking the beach.
Located right on the beach, Bay Shore Huts features 17 separate thatched-roof bungalows set amid a tropical garden and connected by winding stone pathways. The tranquil three-pearl resort features a spacious open-plan lobby with a thatched roof, ornamental wooden benches, and a large map of the island. Buddha statues and wall reliefs are scattered throughout the property, adding an artistic element to the otherwise simple design. The resort has an on-site restaurant and bar, two swimming pools, and a spa, but no gym. It also offers a host of activities and tours for a fee. Bay Shore Huts mostly appeals to couples, but families and groups of friends stay here as well (the resort features a kids’ pool, baby cots, and babysitting services at an extra cost).
Location
Located on Tamarind Beach, a 15-minute walk from the popular Mushroom Bay
The property is situated on Tamarind Beach on Nusa Lembongan, an undeveloped island a 30-minute speedboat ride from Bali. Visitors can also opt for one of the public speedboats that depart regularly from Sanur. Bay Shore Huts can organize transfers to and from the Ngurah Rai International Airport at an additional cost. While the rocky coastline at Tamarind Beach is not swimmable, the resort is a 15-minute walk from the popular Mushroom Bay. The resort is also within an easy walking distance of a number of cafes and restaurants, and offers scooters and buggies for rent.
Rooms
Simple thatched-roof bungalows with wooden furniture, semi-outdoor bathrooms, and private terraces
The resort offers 17 rustic bungalows with vaulted ceilings constructed out of cogon (also known as alang-alang) grass, which can sleep up to three people. While the fairly basic wooden bungalows all look the same, guests can opt for either garden- or beach-view accommodation. All 215-square-foot (20-square-meter) bungalows come with dark-wood furnishings and walls, canopy beds with mosquito nets and pops of blue in the linens, and appealing private terraces with two armchairs and a small table.
Also standard are air-conditioning, safety deposit boxes, desks, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and free mineral water, but no TVs. Reflecting Balinese aesthetic, the stone terrace bathrooms are semi-open with the shower completely exposed to the elements. There are no bathtubs. On the downside, the bungalows are beginning to look a little worn, and guests have reported maintenance issues such as stained linens and towels, broken showerheads, and air-conditioners that do not adequately cool the rooms.
Features
Restaurant serving free breakfasts, two pleasant pools, and a range of activities and tours
Bay Shore Huts offers a host of amenities, including an open-air seaside restaurant and bar that serves a free breakfast, as well as lunches and dinners. The breakfast is chosen from an a la carte menu, and the banana pancakes are particularly popular. Thanks to tables and chairs set directly on the sand, guests can eat close to the water. The chef can arrange a picnic basked on request (at an additional cost), and a range of reading materials are available at the restaurant. The striking beachside infinity pool comes surrounded by loungers topped with blue cushions, as well as white umbrellas and lush palm trees. There's also a smaller garden pool flanked by sculptures.
The family-friendly resort also offers a kids’ pool, baby cots, and babysitting services. There's no gym but the resort features a Spa Corner, with a range of treatments including massage, manicures, and hair braiding that can be taken in the bungalows, overlooking the ocean, or any other area. There is also a host of activities and tours at an extra cost, including tours of a seaweed farm, mangrove point, and the suspension bridge to the nearby Nusa Ceningan Island. The water activities on offer include coral fishing, snorkeling, surfing, and diving. Free Wi-Fi access is provided throughout.
