Amori Villas is an upscale boutique resort outside of Ubud, with seven villas set in lush jungle surrounds. While the villas vary in architecture and size, all have furnished terraces and traditional Balinese touches, plus private butler service. There's a clifftop infinity pool with superb views of the valley. Yoga sessions and communal dining encourage guest interaction. As Amori Villas lacks child-friendly facilities, it's not ideal for families with younger kids, but it's a great choice for honeymooning couples -- especially if they opt to stay in one of the more secluded villas.
Scene
Tranquil retreat in lush jungle setting with beautiful river valley views
Amori Villas is accessed through an inconspicuous but beautifully carved wooden door guarded by a pair of statues of Ganesh, the elephant god in the Hindu pantheon. The grounds are particularly impressive, with stone paths meandering through lush landscaped tropical gardens full of butterflies and exotic birds. A wooden bridge stretches over a jungle gorge and out towards the hotel's clifftop infinity pool, which looks out onto the beautiful Petanu River Valley. The resort was opened in 2009 by owners Rick and Peta, who place a real emphasis on the luxury experience, whilst creating a friendly and down-to-earth vibe conducive to extreme relaxation -- the layout is positively designed to lie back and be cooled by the mountain breeze while listening to chirruping birdsong and the gentle chiming of the local village's temple bells. The overall ambience is romantic and peaceful, and while it's not a good choice for families with kids, it's an excellent spot for honeymooning couples.
Location
On the edge of a traditional farming village, just outside of Ubud
The hotel is located on the outskirts of the traditional rice farming village of Pejeng in the Dukuh Kawan area of Bali. The island's arts and culture capital, Ubud, is about 10 minutes away on the hotel's free shuttle or a 20-minute bike ride away. It's around 45 minutes to Denpasar city center while the Depensar Airport takes closer to an hour by car.
Rooms
Secluded villas with gorgeous carved wood furnishings and personal butlers
The resort has just seven villas in all, each with its own style and character. The smaller villas are the perfect size for one couple while bigger ones can cater to to groups or pairs of couples. There are two Javanese-style villas are perched above the cliff that offer total privacy, making them ideal for honeymooners. All the villas are beautifully decorated with traditional intricately carved wood furnishings, crisp white drapery, and furnished terrace areas. All are equipped with flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and DVD players, kettles, minibars, and free bottled spring water. Wi-Fi is free in villas and throughout the property. Personal butlers add to the luxury vibe, and many villas also have free-standing tubs and secluded garden bathrooms.
Features
Morning yoga, Balinese spa treatments, and clifftop infinity pool with gorgeous views
The clifftop infinity pool is Amori Villas star attraction and has an exceptionally picturesque setting with views out over the adjacent valley. The hotel's restaurant feels more like a communal dining space, which encourages mingling between guests, and has an open kitchen serving great breakfasts and home-style regional cooking. Couples can opt for a romantic candlelit dinner by the pool or take the hotel's shuttle to one of the many restaurants in Ubud. At least a 1:1 guest-to-staffer ratio means service is always attentive, though unobtrusive, while in-house Balinese spa treatments and morning yoga sessions are particularly popular with guests. However, there's no real dedicated spa area.
