Bottom Line

The Ahimsa Beach Resort is a quiet, four-pearl villa property off a quiet road in South Bali's Jimbaran. The 11 villas have one to three bedrooms, and all come with kitchenettes and private plunge pools. There aren't a ton of amenities, but breakfast (cooked-to-order in the villas) is included in room rates, and honeymooners get little extras thrown in, such as free cake and rose-sprinkled baths. There's also free area shuttle service, a convenience for those who prefer not to drive. Be aware that the hotel is not directly on the water, so travelers may also want to consider the Balibaliku Beach Front Luxury Private Pool Villa, an upscale property with direct beach access.

Scene

Small villa resort popular with couples and families alike

Guests at the 11-villa Ahimsa Beach Resort are greeted with welcome drinks in the Ahimsa's simple lobby, a small room with a white floor, a long padded bench, and a couple of chairs. Plant-flanked paved pathways lead to the villas, each of which is reached through a large set of industrial-looking metal doors that give the villas a foreboding (but private) vibe. The property is popular with couples and families alike. While there isn't much in the way of facilities and activities for kids, babysitting services are available on request. Honeymooners get little bonuses, such as free cake and rose petals in their bathtubs.

Location

On a quiet road in Jimbaran, a five-minute walk to the beach

The Ahimsa Beach Resort is located in the village of Jimbaran in southern Bali, a former fishing village that's turned into a tourist hub. It has white-sand beaches and safe water for swimming, but it doesn't offer much of a party scene. The property is located on a small, dead-end road with several other hotels and is a five-minute walk to the quiet beach. While there aren't many restaurants or shops nearby, the hotel offers a free shuttle to Nusa Dua, Seminyak, and Kuta. The hotel is south of the Ngurah Rai International Airport, a 15-minute drive away, and it takes about the same amount of time to get to the center of Kuta. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is a 13-minute drive south of the hotel, while getting to the Uluwatu Temple takes closer to a half hour. Bali's capital of arts and culture, Ubud, is about a 90-minute drive, depending on traffic.

Rooms

One- to three-Bedroom villas with open-air kitchens and private plunge pools

Ahimsa Beach Resort's One-, Two-, and Three-Bedroom Pool Villas resemble one another in decor and amenities. The contemporary interiors are well-maintained, though not particularly atmospheric, featuring polished marble floors, dark-wood furniture and window trim, brown and tan bedding and throw cushions, and off-white walls with a few abstract art pieces in earth tones. Amenities include electronic safes and small flat-screen TVs with DVD players, and each unit has its own private plunge pool with lounge chairs. The dining/living rooms face the pool, and are considerably more charming than the bedrooms, with solid-blue walls matching blue throw cushions on tan sofa sets, flat-screen TVs, dining counters or tables, and a few Balinese-style sculptures. Kitchenettes come with sinks, stoves, toasters, kettles, and blenders, as well as mini-fridges stocked with soft drinks.

Bathrooms are large and have ample closet space, plus double vanities and outdoor (but sequestered) spaces with deep soaking tubs and separate walk-in rainfall showers surrounded by tropical plants. Cots, high chairs, and playpens are available on request.

Features

Limited amenities include free Wi-Fi and area shuttle service

There's no on-site restaurant, but dinners and barbecues can be arranged in the villas, and the hotel can arrange traditional music performances on request. A cooked-to-order breakfast is included in room rates. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and there's a free area shuttle to Nusa Dua, Seminyak, and Kuta. In-room spa treatments can be arranged. Laundry service is also available.
