Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Baguio is a three-pearl hotel located across from the Victory Liner bus terminal. There are 60 rooms here with either one or two beds, plus window seats, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs. Units categorized as suites add wet bars with microwaves and mini-fridges. Amenities are limited to meeting space and a great tapas restaurant with weekend entertainment and room service. A buffet breakfast is included in room rates, but Wi-Fi costs extra. Overall, this is a good value for those wanting to be in the center of town and near shopping at SM City Baguio, but the lack of amenities may deter some travelers. It may be worthwhile to check out the higher priced Le Monet Hotel, which has an outdoor pool, a gym, and a spa.
Scene
Blue colonial-style building with simple interiors; popular with tourists and business travelers
Microtel Inn & Suites is housed in a lovely colonial-style (but undeniably purpose-built) structure with a beautiful sky-blue facade mixed with some gray stonework and white trim and columns. Inside, the lobby is a simple and clean, well-maintained affair with polished marble floors and a few wicker seats and sofas with plush cushions. Some bright, modern art hangs on the walls, but it's not truly memorable. A set of stairs leads up to a mezzanine area with additional seating, and an elevator is available off to one side. The hotel attracts both business and leisure travelers, including lots of families from Manila.
Location
Central location near bus terminal, shops, restaurants, and area parks
This Microtel is located right next to the Victory Liner bus terminal, making it convenient to travelers coming by bus from Manila. It's a 10-minute drive to Wright Park Horse Stable Hill, a popular destination for horseback riding. Lourdes Grotto, a Catholic shrine with panoramic city views, is also 10 minutes away by car. Those who want to stick to walking will find plenty to do in the immediate area, as there are lots of restaurants, cafes, and green spaces within a 10- to 15-minute walk of the hotel. There's also a popular shopping mall -- SM City Baguio -- about 15 minutes away on foot.
Rooms
Simple, air-conditioned rooms and suites with flat-screen TVs and bathrooms with rainfall showers
The Microtell offers rooms with either one or two comfortable queen beds, plus suites which add wet bars, mini-fridges, and small microwaves. All rooms have a similarly simple decor scheme with parquet floors, wood furniture and trim, and turquoise accent panels behind the beds that add a bit of life to the otherwise darkish spaces. Flat-screen TVs are mounted on dressers high in the rooms' corners, while air-conditioning units with individual controls sit below window benches. Bathrooms are simple, with shower/tub combos and rainfall showerheads. Simple toiletries and hairdryers are provided.
Features
Free buffet breakfast, room service from on-site tapas restaurant, and free parking
Amenities at this hotel are simple, and the lack of fitness facilities or a pool may deter some travelers from wanting to stay here. A free buffet breakfast is served every morning and coffee is free in the lobby throughout the day. Room service is available from Te Quiero Tapas Bar & Restaurant, which offers all sorts of seafood specialties along with traditional Spanish favorites. There's often live music here on Friday and Saturday nights. All-you-can-eat packages are also available on weekends. Other amenities at the hotel include ample free parking and meeting space for rent -- but Wi-Fi costs extra.
