Bottom Line

About a 30-minute walk from urban Burnham Park is the three-pearl Azalea Residences Baguio, which offers a modern and affordable stay with a decent set of amenities. There are 99 apartment-style rooms with plenty of space, kitchenettes, and free Wi-Fi, though all lack air-conditioning and only some have balconies. Four meeting rooms, free breakfast with Filipino and Western items, two dining options, and a children’s playground round out the features. The lack of a pool is a bit of a drawback for some. It might be worth checking the prices at Citylight Hotel which has similar amenities and is closer to Burnham Park.

Scene

Family-friendly hotel with a lodge-like exterior and modern interiors

Azalea Residences Baguio has the appearance of a charming mountain lodge with fake stone and wood exteriors. A metal water fountain surrounded by flowers adds a nice touch. The grounds are full of well-hedged bushes and a small playground, a first hint at the family-friendly vibe of this contemporary hotel. Inside, the reception is modern and chic with glossy white floors and an atrium with lovely larger-than-life floral designs creeping up the walls. Clean lines and modern furnishings throughout give this place a chain hotel vibe, especially in the restaurant area which has simple wooden tables, plaid chairs, and flat-screen TVs. The lounge feels a bit more relaxing with cozy gray chairs and orange pillows. The hotel attracts mostly families who enjoy the self-service suites with kitchenettes, modern design, and value prices.

Location

Surrounded by restaurants and schools, but a 30-minute walk to Burnham Park

Azalea Residences Baguio is on the outer edges of the city center. Though the neighborhood is full of dining options and a grocery store, it’s about a nine-minute drive or 30-minute walk to Burnham Park, the city’s central focus. One of the city’s main roads, Session Road, is an 18-minute walk away, while a golf club takes 21 minutes to reach on foot. Mine’s View Observation Deck is a 10-minute drive away. It’s a good place to stay for visiting students attending the nearby schools of Brent School, Saint Louis University Laboratory, and Berkeley School that surround the property. Loakan Airport takes 16 minutes to reach by car.

Rooms

Apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes, minibars, and flat-screen TVs; no air-conditioning

The 99 contemporary rooms here are actually more like apartments -- some with separate living rooms and kitchenettes, and others that are set up studio-style with kitchenettes. The largest units have three bedrooms. They’re decorated in white tiled floors, streamlined wooden furniture, and tones of brown and forest green. A few framed flower art pieces add a little character to the spaces. In-room features include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes with minibars, sinks, stovetops, kettles, microwaves, dinnerware and silverware sets, and pots and pans. Some rooms have balconies, but all lack air-conditioning. Neat and clean bathrooms have white tile, black countertops, vessel sinks, and glass showers. Azalea-style toiletries and hairdryers are provided.

Features

Breakfast, restaurant, lounge, playground, meeting rooms, free Wi-Fi, and free parking

Azalea Residences Baguio may not offer a pool, gym, or spa, but that’s fairly expected of a three-pearl hotel. In the mornings, there’s a free breakfast buffet with Filipino and American breakfast options. For other meals, Tradisyon restaurants serves local and international options, while Eight Degrees Lounge has snacks, appetizers, and drinks. Kids can enjoy an outdoor playground. Business travelers have four fully-equipped meeting rooms that hold up to 300 people and there's free Wi-Fi throughout. Parking on-site is free.
