Scene

A convenient, business-oriented hotel with stark contemporary interiors and limited leisure facilities

Oaks Elan Darwin is a modern and convenient business-oriented hotel set in the heart of Darwin's downtown. The hotel lobby is little more than a place for guests to check-in, and includes some couch seating. Decor features clean white interiors that are stark except for a few splashes of color that come from the burnt-orange furniture and brown patterned wall decorations. O.A.K Restaurant is the space in the hotel that has the most character. The restaurant interior has an industrial, yet rustic look with a blend of metal and wood features, with whitewashed wooden furniture, stainless steel accents, and an earthy ochre color scheme. The large space includes a long bar, an open kitchen, an alfresco dining area with comfy couch seating, and plenty of indoor dining space. Guests run the gamut from business travelers to families to couples.

Location

In the heart of downtown Darwin near restaurants, bars, malls, and the Darwin Waterfront Precinct

Oaks Elan Darwin is centrally located along Woods Street, within walking distance of Darwin's business, shopping, and leisure hubs. Downtown attractions  within a 10- to 15-minute walk include the Darwin Entertainment Centre, the Smith Street Mall, popular bars and eateries, and popular tourist attractions like the Crocosaurus Cove reptile park. Also just 10 minutes away on foot is the Darwin Waterfront Precinct, which features a wave pool, the Darwin Convention Centre, sprawling grass lawns, shops, restaurants, and bars. The Darwin Interchange bus station is around a five-minute walk from the hotel. Guests should budget about 20 to 30 minutes for airport transfers. It takes about a two-hour drive to reach Kakadu and Lichfield National Park and the trip is fairly straightforward along main highway routes. Those with limited time, but who still want to see some of the Northern Territory's nature, may want to check out the smaller Mary River National Park, which is just a little over an hour away from Darwin. Mary River has some incredible scenery and wildlife, and the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in Australia.

Rooms

Clean rooms and apartments with (some) harbor views, laundry facilities, and fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes

Oaks Elan Darwin offers a range of modern one- and two-bedroom apartments, and minimalist guest rooms. Overall, the rooms have been designed to be highly functional and convenient. Interiors have a minimalist contemporary look with light colored tiled floors and sparsely decorated white walls, which leaves a somewhat stark and cold impression. Although, the furniture does add some warmth and color to the space with a mix of materials that includes light colored wood composite with a yellowish stain and upholstered furniture with a burnt-orange color scheme. Apartments and suites are outfitted with comfy sofa chairs or couches, work tables and chairs, and roomy wardrobes. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Apartments have additional amenities like laundry machines, plus fully equipped kitchens with washing sinks, dishwashers, electric stoves, ovens (some room types), microwaves, toasters, kettles, and cookware. Some of the guest rooms have kitchenettes. Bathrooms follow the same minimalist look and have a sensible layout that includes a long counter for storing toiletries, a standalone sink, and a walk-in shower cubicle with a rainfall shower. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Most rooms feature furnished balconies with either harbor or city views.

Features

A rooftop swimming pool, O.A.K Restaurant, meeting rooms, a fitness center, and free Wi-Fi

Oaks Elan Darwin is a minimalist business-oriented hotel with a range of facilities. The rooftop swimming pool is long enough for laps but isn't very inviting for relaxation as there isn't any greenery and there are only minimal lounge chairs laid out. Adjacent to the pool is a small fitness center that is well outfitted with Matrix cardio machines like treadmills and cross-trainers, plus a few weight machines. O.A.K Restaurant is located on the ground level, and is a relaxed upscale dining venue that's open for breakfast and dinner only. The compact dinner menu is almost exclusively meat focused, with dishes like steaks, braised pork ribs, pork belly, lamb cutlets, and seafood dishes. Breakfast is an additional charge and is served a la carte with a selection of classic egg dishes and vegetarian options on offer. The meeting facilities are quite versatile with one large conference room that holds up to 270 theater-style. The space can be split up in to five individual meeting rooms with folding wall panels. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Parking is available on-site for a fee.
