Bottom Line

This gigantic upper-middle-range downtown hotel, with just over 1,000 rooms, is situated in one of the five tallest buildings in Atlanta and offers spectacular views from its rotating rooftop restaurant, pool, and some guest rooms. The downtown location is within a short drive (or somewhat lengthy, but doable, walk) of nearby attractions including the Georgia Dome and World of Coca Cola, making the hotel a hub of activity and popular site for conferences and celebrations. Rooms have an apartment-like feel, all with floor-to-ceiling windows, and some with spectacular views of the city. However, there is some degree of nickel-and-diming (for example, for Wi-Fi), and the giant property makes for a somewhat impersonal experience.

Scene

Hub of downtown activity in one of Atlanta’s tallest buildings

The building’s downtown location and expansive meeting spaces make the property a popular choice for events like business conferences and weddings -- so the crowd tends to err corporate. At 72 floors, it is the fifth-tallest building in Atlanta and the tallest hotel; it maintains an impressive silhouette on the city's skyline, with a windowed cylindrical tower extending from a standard beige concrete facade. The vast lobby and its adjoining bar have a fairly corporate feel and combine industrial carpeting with blonde wood. There are a few somewhat cozy seating nooks with gray couches and leather chairs, some clustered around flat-screen TVs. Guests can take an elevator to the three-level dining complex that includes an observation deck, fine dining restaurant, and bar with a revolving seating area.

Location

In the middle of downtown Atlanta in a busy financial and commercial areadowntown

The hotel is attached to AmericasMart, a home furnishings and apparel vendor showroom and retail center. This downtown location is central and convenient, putting guests within a half-mile of the CNN center, Georgia World Congress Center, World of Coca-Cola, Philips Arena, and College Football Hall of Fame. The Georgia Dome is about three-quarters of a mile away. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is about a 20-minute ride on MARTA; a hotel shuttle takes guests to the MARTA station on the same block.

Rooms

Floor-to-ceiling windows, some offering spectacular city views

The simple rooms have an apartment-like feel, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, generously sized writing desks, brushed steel fixtures, and modern, corporate-like design. Decor is mainly brown and beige, from the carpeting to the drapes to the wall art. Bathrooms are clean and simple, with beige tile and wallpaper, and stall showers with rain showerheads -- some have bathtubs. Each room has a flat-screen TV, bathrobe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and coffeemaker with Starbucks grounds. Some guests have commented that walls are thin, and rooms along the highway side of the hotel receive some traffic noise. Wi-Fi is available for a fee.

Features

Pool with views, modern fitness center, and rooftop rotating restaurant

There is a modestly sized rooftop pool enclosed under a retractable domed glass ceiling, through which guests can take in views of the surrounding high-rise buildings. The parking garage offers self-parking and valet parking for fairly substantial daily and hourly fees. A large amount of meeting space can be found in the lobby, on-site ballroom, and meeting room. Meetings can also be held at 200 Peachtree, an elegant atrium space accessed through a seventh-floor bridge. Tourists and parties flock to the three-level dining complex, offering panoramic views from the cocktail lounge and a rotating rooftop restaurant serving upscale seasonal cuisine. There is a modern fitness center with a good handful of exercise machines, and a copy shop in the lobby that takes the place of a business center.
