The 325-room Emory Conference Center Hotel is a large, eco-friendly building embedded in the 26-acre forest preserve on the Emory University campus. With spacious, classically designed rooms, and sprawling lodge-like interiors, the upper-middle-range hotel provides a quiet, restorative respite that's close to both the university and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There is ample meeting and event space available, along with two restaurants, a bowling alley, and a lovely indoor pool. While not horribly inconvenient, the hotel may be less attractive to tourists hoping to get a real sense of Atlanta's city life. For those who want to stay downtown, check rates at the Westin Peachtree Plaza.
Scene
Celebrates organic architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright through clean lines and natural scenes inside and out
The Emory Conference Center Hotel is a beautiful, restorative property inspired by architect Frank Lloyd Wright's clean-lined, organic style. A five-story, beige concrete building with windows trimmed in red, the hotel is fronted by neatly trimmed hedges and wooden patio tables. It has something of an academic look, although is a bit nondescript compared to some of Emory's more regal buildings. Inside, things are warmer. The large lobby floor is a fluid space of dark tile, polished wood, and mauve carpet, well-lit by the hotel's large windows. Designed with an almost lodge-like quality, the hotel has a great deal of mission style furniture, natural wood columns, and a large stone fireplace with seating at either side. Guests -- many of whom are business travelers or attending conferences on the premises -- can relax on the leather couches and large wooden armchairs. Soft, golden lighting helps capture the natural, woodsy feel. The hotel's two restaurants, the buffet Dining Room, and the extra-large smoking-room-like Club Room, maintain the same aesthetic.
Location
In a 26-acre preserved forest across from the CDC
The Emory Conference Center Hotel is located within a 26-acre preserved forest. On the Emory University campus and across from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the hotel is excellently located for researchers and those with connections at the university. About a 20- to 25-minute drive from downtown Atlanta, the hotel misses out on the cityscape and may be less ideal for guests seeking an urban feel. The hotel is about a 30-minute drive from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Rooms
Large and elegant with huge windows and ample workspace
Rooms at the Emory Conference Center Hotel are spacious and have large windows that allow in plenty of natural light. Double, queen, or king beds are available. Each room is equipped with a flat-screen TV with cable, coffee and tea facilities, a large work desk with ergonomic chair, and a cushioned reading chair with an ottoman. Expect to pay extra for Wi-Fi in the rooms. Some rooms have mini-fridges and/or balconies or stone patio space with simple, wood furniture. The dark wood mission-style furniture lends classic elegance, while modern touches, such as bedspreads with a subtle tree branch pattern, offer an element of uniqueness and surprise. The light brown carpeting offers earthy appeal, in line with the property's woodsy aesthetic. Bathrooms tend to be a little on the small size, though offer wooden shelving, shower/tub combos, and a full selection of eco-friendly Paya bath products.
Features
Eco-friendly hotel with two restaurants, 24-hour gym, and extensive event space -- including a bowling alley
Along with its attractive woodsy setting, Emory Conference Center Hotel has over 32,000 square feet of meeting and event space, making it a great place for conferences and weddings. Among the available event spaces is Wisteria Lanes, a private bowling alley and lounge. The hotel has a business center with four computers and a printer, and USA Today is available free Monday through Friday. There are hiking, biking, and jogging trails within the forest preserve, along with a 24-hour gym that's large and well-equipped with several cardio and weight machines, and free weights. The gym overlooks a fairly large indoor pool, which in turn looks out on the grounds. A small hot tub sits next to the pool. The hotel employs several green initiatives, such as free EV charging stations, and recycling and composting; it also offers free bikes for guest use, and converts its two restaurants' kitchen oil into biodiesel for Emory University buses. The main restaurant, The Dining Room, is open for three meals daily, and has a buffet along with made-to-order entrees, including pizza. The Club Room serves cocktails and meals, as well. Wi-Fi is only free in public areas.
