Bottom Line

The 50-room, mid-range Philippos Hotel has an exceptional central location right below the Acropolis. Restaurants,
bars, and public transportation surround this family-run property. The air-conditioned rooms come with mini-fridges but have somewhat dated carpeting and colors. While some rooms
have balconies with wonderful views, others lack light.
Wi-Fi and breakfast are free, and there's also an extremely modest business center with two laptops, and meeting rooms. Guests might want to check out the Philippos' sister property, Herodion, which has a fresher decor and more amenities.

Scene

A dated, mid-range hotel in an excellent location

Family-owned, the Philippos hotel has a small lobby and breakfast area, and some colorful
touches throughout. The pillows on the gray chairs in the breakfast room have
funky patterns, and there are green couches in the lobby with floral accent pillows. The glass ceiling sitting area in the lobby brings in natural light. Mall food-court-style tables with matching
flooring date the dim breakfast area, but the food artwork on the walls adds some color. Plants provide life and greenery to the common areas. Hallways are
narrow.

Location

In Koukaki, across the street from the New Acropolis Museum

The Philippos Hotel is in quiet Koukaki, with restaurants and coffee shops
encompassing the area. Across the street is the New Acropolis Museum, and the Acropolis metro station is a few blocks away, along with the Theatre of Dionysos, the
Acropolis, Temple of Olympian Zeus, and the Arch of Hadrian.
Syntagma Square and Omonia Square are a six-minute drive or a 10-minute metro ride
from the hotel.

Rooms

Rooms are clean, but dated; some have balconies with great views of the Acropolis.

These soundproofed rooms lack design. Army-green carpeting matched with tan drapes,
bedspreads, and wallpaper date the rooms, and the nature artwork seems out of
place. Some rooms have balconies with beautiful views of the Acropolis.
Mini-fridges, safes, air-conditioning, and small TVs come with all rooms, but many appliances
are old. Gray tile covers the small bathrooms. They have shower/tub combos, but
the nozzle simply moves from one upper fixed position to a lower one to
distinguish between shower and bath. Lighted magnifying mirrors help illuminate some of
the dimly lit bathrooms, but the basic sinks don’t provide any counter
space. All bathrooms have Oliva toiletries and old-style hairdryers.

Features

Wonderful free breakfast buffet; a few 24-hour services

The free breakfast is served in the cafe, and its wide
assortment of cheeses, pastries, fruits, meats, and breads gets great reviews from guests. Greek and
Mediterranean dishes are served at lunch and dinner at the on-site restaurant
at Philippos’ sister hotel, Herodion. Coupons are given to Philippos hotel
guests to use at the restaurant, the Atrium Bar and Roof Garden at the Herodion
Hotel. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, and the business center, front desk, laundry/dry cleaning, and
concierge services are available 24 hours..
