Katerina Hotel is a mid-range property located near a metro
station in Metaxourgeio, but it is far from sightseeing attractions. It's close to some run-down neighborhoods that not all travelers would be comfortable in. The
hotel’s 51 rooms are slightly dated and have small showers, but adjoining rooms that can accommodate up to four people are available. A tasty
breakfast buffet is included in the room rate, and the hotel has a bright cafe/bar
area. Guests might want to check out the Plaka Hotel, a three-pearl property with a seasonal rooftop lounge that's within walking distance of the Acropolis, but has slightly higher rates than the Katerina.
Scene
Cozy, homey lobby and busy breakfast area
Outside by the hotel entrance is a
seating area where guests can sit and smoke on a tile porch decorated with
leafy plants. Inside, the lobby has a cozy but dated feel with tapestry rugs
and wooden couches with fabric cushions. Framed artwork, curio cabinets filled
with colorful glassware, and a TV create a living-room feel. The cafe has big
windows, tall ceilings, and a music-themed decor, including a Victrola, old
radios, and a jukebox. Breakfast is served on tables with white linens and vases of fresh flowers, in an area with mirrored ceilings. Guests should arrive early to
avoid lines. The hotel’s parking lot has a dilapidated look, with cracked
asphalt, spare tires marking parking spots, and flimsy green roofing that is
falling apart.
Location
On busy corner near a metro station, but far from sightseeing attractions
Katerina Hotel is on a busy corner on Metaxourgeio Square, across from some shops and next to
a theater. The neighborhood is near other neighborhoods that are a bit rundown and graffitied -- not the nicest
parts of Athens. Guests can take the nearby metro to Syntagma Square, which is within a
10-minute ride and from there walk to the Parthenon and Acropolis. The hotel
has free parking, and Athens International Airport is about a half-hour drive.
Rooms
Clean rooms with balconies, dated decor, and small showers
Rooms at the
Katerina Hotel are clean, have minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Dated
furnishings include heavy, floor-length curtains and gold-framed pictures. Some
rooms have small bathrooms with tight stand-in showers. Thoughtful bathroom
amenity kits include combs, toothpaste and toothbrushes. Adjoining rooms that can accommodate up to four people are available. All rooms have
balconies, and suites are available with huge outdoor terraces that have tables and chairs and are decorated with leafy
plants and flowers.
Features

breakfast room can also be used as a private meeting room.
