A throwback with little warmth or style
In many ways, the Hotel Aristoteles hearkens back to a different era. From the outside, it has an almost 1970s look, with illuminated lettering vertically down the side of the hotel, and signage in the stylized typography typically used to symbolize ancient Greek. Inside, things get a little newer -- but not much. The lobby and lounge look straight out of the 1970s or '80s, with brown and orange couches and dim yellow lighting. The small restaurant is more of the same: poorly lit, with red chairs and checkered tablecloths. There's a cheerlessness to the common spaces, and things are looking worse for wear.

In Vathis Square, a less than ideal neighborhood but still convenient for getting around town
The Hotel Aristoteles is located in the Vathis Square area of Athens. This area is fairly close to attractions such as the Acropolis and the Parthenon -- about a half an hour by foot or by metro -- and very close to the National Archeological Museum. There are some restaurants in the area, but overall Vathis Square is not an especially nice area, and it's better not to walk around here at night.
Rooms
Small, dated, and bland in style
Rooms are small and bland, with 1970s motel-style decor. Thin, faded red comforters cover the beds (twins or doubles), furniture is light wood, and rooms are dark. There is a small vanity, but little other seating or furniture. Flat-screen TVs are mounted on the wall, but are sometimes at an angle that makes it uncomfortable to watch, above and next to the bed. Rooms come with mini-fridges too, but all electricity is activated by the room key, meaning the fridge loses power when you leave. Bathrooms are brighter, with marble tiling, but are still cramped with thin, clingy shower curtains. There is free Wi-Fi in the rooms, and some rooms have balconies.
