The Best Western Pythagorian is a mid-range chain hotel at the northern corner of downtown Athens near Omonoia Square. The 56 rooms are basic and decor is kept to a minimum, although they do have mini-fridges and small balconies. There’s
a lobby bar and the hotel serves a
free breakfast buffet with Greek items like yogurt and feta cheese. There isn’t a fitness center or pool
at the hotel, and some guests find the area to be a bit dodgy. Young guests looking for an inexpensive option closer to the touristy areas may want to also look into Athens Studios, a hotel with a youth-hostel vibe that has apartment-like rooms with kitchens.
Scene
Practical hotel with elevator and not much character
Overall, the
Best Western Pythagorian doesn’t have a lot of character, although the breakfast room has an odd mix of decor, including pink walls, green marble floors and colorful,
eclectic artwork. Rooms are spread across seven
floors connected by a marble staircase and an elevator. In the lobby is a
small, curved wooden bar and fresh flowers on wooden tables surrounded by blue
club chairs. On the bar is a large glass
dispenser filled with orange juice available for free to guests all day. Guests are a mix of families, couples, and business travelers.
Location
Close to metro station and Greek National Theater in somewhat seedy neighborhood
The
hotel is located in the northern corner of downtown Athens near Omonoia Square
that some guests find to be a bit shady, especially at night. It’s two buildings down from the Greek
National Theater. It’s further from most of the touristy destinations than
other hotels in the area, but there’s a metro station within a five-minute
walk, and the Acropolis can be reached in less than a 20-minute ride on public
transportation. Getting to the Athens International Airport takes around an hour
on public transportation or half an hour by car. There's no parking on-site.
Rooms
Classic rooms with minimal decor and typical chain hotel ambiemce
Rooms are typical of what one would expect from a chain hotel, with tile floors, white walls, and dark wooden desks and headboards.
Besides the salmon-colored bedding and long curtains, there’s little decor. All rooms have
mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs, and the small balconies offer views of city
life. Bathrooms have handheld shower heads with tubs. The sinks are oversized, but there's little counter space around them.
Features
Lobby bar and tasty breakfast buffet with Greek items
There
aren’t a lot of amenities at the Best Western Pythagorian Hotel, although there is a small, classic bar in the lobby where free orange juice is available all day (guests also get a welcome drink for free). A tasty breakfast buffet with Greek foods (including yogurt and feta cheese) along with continental items is included in room rates. There’s also an Internet corner with
two computers and a printer, and the hotel offers free Wi-Fi throughout.
