Convenient central location for a value price
Clean, modern rooms with attractive modern bathrooms
Some rooms have views of the Acropolis
Free breakfast buffet
Rooftop bar with spectacular city view
Free Wi-Fi
Noisy mornings from the surrounding farmers market
Questionable neighborhood at night due to prostitution
Some complaints of cigarette odor though the public spaces are non-smoking
This small, value-driven, 54-room boutique hotel has an emphasis on design. The trendy lobby is outfitted with big platform sofas framed by thick, white columns beneath a two-story ceiling. Guest rooms are stylish and comfortable and some have great views of the Acropolis. The big bonus here is the rooftop bar with fabulous views of the city. While the neighborhood is not conducive to late-night strolls, it is very convenient to Plaka, the Acropolis, and the metro. Those traveling with kids may want to consider Hotel Hermes, which is in a quieter area and has a kids playroom available.
Scene
A calm, contemporary interior with colors that reflect the bustling market outside
The colorful hotel derives its name from its central location. The architects used a palette of kiwi, blue ocean, strawberry, lemon, and mandarin to echo the colors of the fruit market outside. Playful paintings in the lobby and hallways, by Belgium artist Corinna O' Brien, give the hotel an upbeat feeling. Guests can gather in the sleek lobby with comfy, upholstered seating or upstairs, on the rooftop for sunbathing during the day or cool drinks at night, with superb city views.
Location
Calm haven in the middle of Athens Central Market
The hotel is a 30-minute drive from the airport, or around an hour by public transport (a metro line 3 ride and then a five-minute walk from Monastiraki Square). For those catching a boat, Monastiraki Square also has a direct line to Pireous Port. It's a short walk (five minutes) to the historical center of Plaka with its numerous shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants. The Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, flea market, and many other sights are also walking distance. The hotel is opposite the fruit and vegetable area of the Athens Central Market. While the hotel is convenient, there are some concerns about the neighborhood late at night.
Rooms
Bright like a kiwi or calm like a blue lagoon?
Its up to guests to choose: The hotel encourages guests to book by desired color. It's a fun concept, but those who want a quiet room with a view of the Acropolis should ask for a room in the back; noise from the market in the morning and from street life at night carries to front-facing rooms. If the back is not available request a high floor. The furnishings, bed cover, and overall decor are cheerful and modern in an Ikea kind of way. Each room has Individually controlled air-conditioning and a mini-fridge.
Features
Acropolis views from the rooftop bar
The great panoramic city views from the rooftop bar are a definite highlight. Free Wi-Fi is offered in all areas of the hotel, though there is a small charge to use the computer in the lobby. Reception offers discounted tickets to some area attractions. Rates include a free buffet breakfast and free tea/coffee in the lobby.
