The 76-room Airotel Alexandros is an upper-mid-range hotel in a convenient location in Athens close to the Acropolis and two metro stations. There's no pool or spa, but the hotel does have a small business center and private parking. The grounds are well maintained, and rooms here are clean and cozy, with a fresh, minimal feel in the more recently updated rooms, which come with flat-screen TVs and stocked minibars. Some lower-level rooms are not renovated and are sporting dated decor. The free buffet breakfast is full of tasty and healthy
choices, and Don Giovanni is a traditional, cozy restaurant with a decent buzz. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
Scene
Classic hotel with a mix of modern and dated decor
The Airotel Alexandros is an upper-mid-range property that has a mix of modern and dated decor. The bright and airy lobby is classically elegant, if on the dated side in places, with glass tables, potted plants, and leather chesterfield sofas. There are several different clusters of couches and chairs, some more modern than others, throughout the common spaces. In some areas, the hotel needs at least a coat of paint, while in others it feels fresh with streamlined decor. The central location is a big draw here, attracting business travelers and families. Overall, the atmosphere is no-frills and quiet, if lacking some polish.
Location
Centrally located, within a five-minute walk of the Acropolis
Situated at the foothill of the Acropolis next to the historic Plaka neighborhood,
the hotel is within walking distance of many of the city's attractions,
including the Acropolis Museum. Various shops, bars, and restaurants are within a 10-minute
walk. Airotel is near the American Embassy and
Music Megaron, and close enough to Kolonaki Square to walk there on foot.
Rooms
Some rooms are more up-to-date than others.
Many rooms at the Airotel Alexandros are modern, open,
and clean, with cream walls and lime green accents, while others (often lower-level rooms) are dated with functional furniture and classic, bordering on drab, decor. Rooms higher up the building tend to be
quieter, and the ones at the back face a shabby apartment block. Bathrooms have
minimal white tiles and creamy marble fittings in the more expensive rooms, and
swirly gray tiling in the standard rooms -- but all feel clean and modern. Balconies aren’t furnished and overlook a busy street. All rooms have flat-screen TVs (some are quite small) and stocked minibars, plus free Wi-Fi.
Features
Free newspapers in the lobby, free breakfast, and a relaxing coffee shop
The Airotel Alexandros doesn't offer much in the
way of amenities -- its convenient location and reasonable rates are the biggest
draws for many guests. That said, the hotel’s coffee shop and bar provide a
relaxing ambience and there are free newspapers in the lobby. Don Giovanni
restaurant is a cozy, although somewhat dated, space. Both breakfast and Wi-Fi are free.
