Bottom Line

The eight-room Hotel Rural Arpa de Hierba (that's rural grass harp in Spanish) is a picturesque and romantic bed and breakfast located in a lush village in Le Pereda, Spain. Owned and operated by a helpful and welcoming Spanish couple, this boutique has light, airy rooms with elegant, rustic furnishings. The excellent breakfast includes Spanish tortillas, fresh squeezed orange juice, and croissants -- but no other meals are served on the property. A car is a requirement to visit the nearby beaches and Picos de Europa. If lack of beach access is a deal breaker, check out nearby Hotel Miracielos for their sandy beach.

Scene

Relaxing and intimate country house with luxurious touches

Hotel Rural Arpa de Hierba is a laid back and luxurious boutique, attracting sophisticated guests looking for a quiet and convenient home base to explore the mountains, beaches, and villages in the area via car. The lobby (and entire house) is country chic with exposed wooden beams overhead and dangling chandeliers. Tile floors are covered with white and blue rugs, while coffee table books on French gardening, a seashell collection, and board games are pretty accents. Outside, guests can admire views of the mountains and grazing cattle from sun loungers in the private garden.

Location

Small village of Llanes

Hotel Rural Arpa de Hierbas has a peaceful rural setting. Some guests have noted that the country house is difficult to find, but crossing railroad tracks means you're on the right track. The hotel doesn't have beach access, like some of its competitors, and the Picos de Europa mountains are about a two-hour drive away. Parking is free.

Rooms

Eight country chic rooms -- some with balconies

The beautifully decorated (and spotlessly clean) rooms are a real standout at Hotel Rural Arpa de Hierbas. Each has a soft color palette with white or light wooden furnishings. Beds are covered in soft white linens and white drapes hang from the windows. Some rooms have small balconies though each room has great views of the green gardens or mountains in the distance. Small flat-screen TVs hang on the wall and free Wi-Fi is a nice perk. Some rooms are smaller than others and bathtubs aren't available in each room. Organic French toiletries in the bathroom are a luxurious touch.

Features

Free gourmet breakfast and pretty gardens

Hotel Rural Arpa de Hierba doesn't offer much in the way of features but the free daily breakfast gets rave reviews. It includes gourmet choices like croissants, fresh squeezed orange juice, and puffy Spanish tortillas, served in the elegant yet homey dining room, or outdoors in the grassy garden. There are sun loungers and great views of the mountains outside. For guidance on where to eat and what to do in the area, the friendly couple who own the hotel are more than happy to oblige.
